Scotland doesn't exist according to Barclaycard!!

 E-mailed Barclaycard this morning to give them prior notice that hubby is travelling with a group to a town in Scotland this week and will be putting the group's hotel bill on the credit card.

Received a phone call from their representative in foreign call centre (I presume this as English was terrible) and shock, horror, she informed me Scotland doesn't exist!!

Explained that Scotland is a country in it's own right and is part of the UK. Didn't believe me. She then said she couldn't find the other country either. Had to tell her the "other country" is a town in Scotland! Eventually agreed that Scotland does exist - sure all of you Scots are relieved;)

She then went on to tell me that she would put a marker on the account to say that the sum I quoted would be charged and that it would be valid for 48 hours. Had already told her that he wasn't travelling to Friday and bill would be paid Sunday so how did she think it would be paid within 48 hours?

Totally frustrating trying to sort out something which should have been so simple.

Really, really wish companies would stop using foreign call centres or at least, employ staff who speak English and have a basic knowledge of geography.

Anyone recommend a credit company using UK call centres? Might have to consider changing cards.

Rant over.:D

One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

Is it any wonder why our education system is looked down on by so many people.

Ah Wiki, the bastion of truth! Scotland (as well as England, Wales and NI) are not countries. The UK is a country. To be called a country there are several criterion that need to be fulfilled, which Scotland doesn't. It has neither sovereignty, nor is it externally recognised.

What a f***wit! I presume you are uneducated, because there are 3 countries in Great Britain. England, Scotland and Wales. All countries.

There are 4 in the UK. England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.

Away and look at even the most basic map before you spout drivel again!

Thicko, the UK is a Sovereign State, not a country!
  • Biggaz26 - You may be right but I applied for a credit card using English, I live in an English speaking country and if I need to speak to someone about my account then I expect them to speak English.

I don't care about skin colour, culture, religion etc but I do expect to be able to speak to an English speaking representative when I need to. If that makes me racist, then so be it, I don't believe I am.

I have come across some staff in foreign call centres with excellent English, however mostly the standard of English is quite poor.

Wrong, the UK is a Sovereign State. Wiki is as accurate as most sources including Encyclopædia Britannica according to studies over 5 years ago.
