Naturally you will still need to cut out these cards as your home printer isn't likely to print anything other than A3/A4/A5.

There are likely some free business card design programs on https://www.download.com that will do this for you, although the outcome could be a little on the amateur side.

In terms of more powerful software that is within your budget (free) you could try something like GIMP (an open-source alternative to Adobe Photoshop) or Inkscape (an open-source alternative to Adobe Illustrator)

    https://www.download.com

https://www.gimp.org (stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program if you are worried! :D)

+1 for Gimp (though it's over kill for this)
Most OS's have a simple image manipulation program. check "Windows Live essentials" for Photo editing

Yes it is overkill, but with such a vague question I felt a coverall option would be best.

My personal opinion is that if the OP is asking this question then he/she should probably be hiring a professional to design and print his/her business cards.

Although again, it isn't entirely clear that the OP actually wants business cards, just that he requires something business card 'sized'. The dimensions given aren't actually business card sized at all by UK standard anyway so who knows :D

    Agree 100%

A few cards are usually quite cheap unless you are after double sided cards in full colour. Even then, not too bad.

I'm sure nothing would be worse than badly produced amateur cards.

Many years ago, while attending a business course, a couple of chaps, intending to start a print business offered all the class members very cheap business cards, basically to get themselves going.

I think their guillutine was blunt .. the cards were pathetic. I don't think any business owner actually kept theirs.

Moral .. cheap cards a 'no no'

Another option for making business cards

    http://www.avery.co.uk/avery/en_gb/Templates-%26-Software/Templates/Pre_Designed-Templates/_/siteschannels-product-category/siteschannels-cards/siteschannels-business-cards-8v/?N=4294967167

You may find that they go out of line with over 8 per page templates

Irfanview will let you resize easily, click image, resize, remove the tick for preserve aspect ratio to use an exact size

    The plug ins are useful

hi thanks for all the replies, i will try to look at those, i tried powerpoint this morning and nearly got the measurements spot on.

hi its not as professional as a proper buisness card, its a silly thing really as my brother in law is getting married he and his best man are traffic cops and for his stag do we are all going to as police with fake warrant cards etc but the obviously silly names an job descriptions an we have the warrant wallets i need to print out and put them in there. so although they dont have to be ultra professional but at same time i want them to be readable etc.

That's quite funny and an entirely different story then. Powerpoint might be a bit difficult as it is primarily designed for use on screens, not for print.

If you have Powerpoint then I assume you also have Word, which will make a better job.
Either use the Avery templates as above or create a 2x4 table with columns 100 mm wide and rows exactly 70mm deep.
Thereafter it's a simple copy, paste and edit in each cell for the different names.
