I'd forgotten about wind-up watches, when did we last buy them? And digital watches, most people have the traditional ones with hands now, how things change.

I can recommend the wind-up torch £3.99 from Wilco, the initial wind-up is tiring on the wrists but they give a very bright light.

LOL we bought 3 wind up LED torches that have FM radios in, and provide a socket to charge up your mobile too. They work out at £8.21 each in Makro, but they had a buy 2 get one free offer on gifts just before Christmas, so we got 3 for £16.42. We've constantly used ours since we got it, and my youngest son sits on the sofa idling winding it up while watching the TV ;);)

  • boots had some wind up radios reduced from £20 to £10 in their sale (larger stores only, didn't see them online, but their website is a bit rubbish!).

before xmas i got torches 2 for £7 and radio for under £10 in robert dyas, not sure if they still have them.

oh another wind up thing - watches! can anyone suggest a place where i can buy a genuinely wind up watch ie one that doesn't have a back up battery?

You can get kinetic watches (Seiko I think) that you shake to wind. Once you've done the initial shake for a minute or 2, they stay wound by your everyday hand movements.

I think the torches are great for an emergency. How many times have you used a torch or other product and batteries are alsmot dead, at least with this you have endless hours of free power.

I have a wind up radio which I cherish I've had it for 6 years now and it very reliable and worth every penny, its great for the Garden and I always use it when I'm decorating.

Its a freeplay radio and I'm sure to get another 6 years out of it as they built to last. With regards to wind up products this may be of interest

Thanks squirreltufty, I thought I was going mad for a minute. My Nan used to have one, and as I grew older and more cynical I started to wonder if it was a fib as I'd never heard of another once since then

  • I have a seiko watch which is "automatic" which i no longer use. Its a few years old now but is very solidly built. Ive been thinking of selling it on ebay until i saw this thread. If anyones interested id be willing to let it go for £20 or so. It is one of those as mentioned where you shake it about for a few minutes and it will run all day and has no batteries.

    regards
