windup products

Just wondered what you guys have seen or got that uses no mains/battery power but is windup.

One of my favourite products is a battery LED windup torch I got for about £6 at Aldi last Christmas.

I am tempted to get a windup radio now.

I seen both a windup torch @ £4 and radio cheap at £6 at Wilkos the other week.

Any other products that could be useful please tell? I would like to do more to save money but also our ever increasing electrical thirst.

Besides all the hype and there seems to be some of that with so called environmental products, which ones are useful and work?

You can get torches that you just shake for a minute and use no batteries at all got a few for friends at Christmas great for an emergency in the car or camping or simply to keep the kids quiet for a few minutes!! £6 off Ebay. Everlight or Eternity torch they are called
  • I can second the recommendation for the shake torches from Ebay. we use them for camping and to keep in the car in case of emergencies. We paid £3 for ours by doing a search using the keywords shake and torch.

Still on the lookout for a wind-up radio at a MSE price ;)

    Merry Christmas all.

I like the wind up radios, but I think if you're going to use it a lot, then it's worth paying more for the ones that have the solar power panel as well.
It's annoying to keep losing the sound every time it winds down a bit.

It would be nice if they had some sort of meter in them so that if you have a spare few minutes just charge it up, there a little noisey fi you want to listen to something. I use my torch a lot now so when I got a few minutes I wind it up, it does seem to last far more than the effort you put it in time I mean.

Bought the kids a couple of wind up torches from Robert Dyas for xmas, they are far better than the faraday shake type you get on ebay.

Cheap as well, two for £7 with free postage (code on ukhotdeals site)

We also have a wind up radio which is a few years old and not that good but i suspect the technology has moved on a bit and the newer ones are.

Well, I found what I think is the Millets site here: http://www.millets.co.uk/millets.storefront/default.aspx

With 2 ts you get a leisure site, no fraud warning for me ...

Anyway, I really popped in to say I've never found the radios with solar panels any good, was always having to wind them up as well.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • boots had some wind up radios reduced from £20 to £10 in their sale (larger stores only, didn't see them online, but their website is a bit rubbish!).

before xmas i got torches 2 for £7 and radio for under £10 in robert dyas, not sure if they still have them.

oh another wind up thing - watches! can anyone suggest a place where i can buy a genuinely wind up watch ie one that doesn't have a back up battery?
