car tax problems :(
Hi all just after some advice. Bought my car a year ago and got a years tax and never realised I didnt receive a log book to say I own it. took the small green slip to the PO but it had already been stamped. (must have used it last year) So rang the DVLA and they said the car hasnt been registered in my name, so I have to send the green slip off to them and wait for a new log book before I can tax it which will take 4 to 6 weeks?????? Does this mean I am expected to live without a car for 6 weeks? I need it to get to work and everything...I know its my fault for not being organised but I would have thought there was a way I can at least drive my car. I know they wont just let you use the green slip everytime because the car isnt registered to me, but the form is in the post and I think 4-6 weeks is a loooong time. I can just about manage getting to work if I cycle, but need to drive 150 miles across the country at weekend and have no other way of getting there

You are ok as long as the car has not been declared stolen. Most important factor is the insurance and MotI owe £3233 @ 0%0

well as you failed to notify the DVLA when you didn't receive the V5 you will just have to lump it, you can't expect them to jump through hoops because you failed to organise your paperwork, which you had the last 12 months to do. I know you know you've made a mistake but there isn't much more you can do other than wait.
Oh and you won't be alright driving around without tax no matter what blacksta may think, your car has to be taxed, MOT'd and insured to be on the road.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

If it's really that desperate cant you go to a DVLA office and do it immediately over the counter, it cant be that much of an inconvenience instead of waiting 6 weeks, if it's really important take a day of work and get it sorted.0

Not if you haven't got the old V5, and the car isn't registered in the op's name.
They have to atempt to contact the old owner first normally.0 -
the giving the green slip to the customer thats already been used and not sending the log book to swansea is a well known tactic used to punt clocked and stolen cars
be warned OP0 -

I just done it with my latest car, just went into the dvla office, handed it over (green slip) and it was registered in my name, new V5 came through in a week:)0 -

thought that was the case only if you didn't have any of the V5, the OP has the green slip which is part of the V5 as given when you buy a car so the DVLA are unlikely to contact the previous owner.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
