lost my mobile & insurance won't pay out!

Hi all, i lost my mobile phone at the cinema on Saturday night. Due to work commitments i couldn't notify my service provider until today and they have said that although i have insurance, they will not issue me with a new phone as i did not notify them within 24 hours of the incident. Tmobile expect me to continue to pay £25 per month for a contract when i have no phone. This is a total joke, is there anything i can do about this??

Even if this were the case, they don't care. However, personally I don't believe that it was the case.

Cinema and work commitments - this makes no sense to me.

    1) Learn a lesson
    2) Get them T-mobile to cancel SIM and reissue
    3) Hope that the finder hasn't used it to call Asutarlia for 12 hours
    4) Get a cheap handset and put in new SIM
    5) Continue to end of contract
    6) Read conditions of insurance next time

So in 36/48hrs you couldn't find 5 minutes to make a phone call. As has been said what if someone found the phone and then spent the next 24/36/48hrs phoning people around the world, accessing the internet (depends on phone) or spent the whole time on premium rate calls. Not only would you be minus a phone but you would have received a phone bill for £00s/000s which you would have been liable for.

If you suspect your phone to be missing you can remotely lock it or wipe the data so that your private text messages or pictures don’t end up in the wrong hands. You can also locate your phone or the person holding it remotely.

If you have a smart phone there is an app called Where's my phone. I have not tried it but the description says:

"To be very frank, this application is not really an anti-theft module, but it will be a great help to you if you have misplaced your mobile. Now, when you lose your phone, you can text your phone with the custom set attention word, and it will turn silent mode off, the ringer volume up, and start ringing. You can also text a different attention word and get the GPS location of your phone."

Aren't phones covered under home + contents insurance? Not sure how much the premium would go up though, and the excess might be worth more than the phone anyway
