Any thoughts on a new family car?
I have a salary sacrifice lease car scheme at work which we have decided to use it to get a new car. There are two of us, plus two kids (3 and 1), we want a car with plenty of boot space and room, I do 300 miles per week for work as well, so I reckon a diesel is a must.
I've narrowed it down to 6:
Mazda 3
Seat Leon
VW Golf
Audi A3
Citroen C4
Peugeot 308
Cheapest to most expensive is about £20/month difference, so they are all about the same price. Any advice on what to go with, anyone who maybe has one of these? There also seems to be a baffling number of different models, so any recommendations there would be appreciated.

Have you test driven any of them?
We had our search narrowed down to four before the weekend. We test drove the cars and liked one far more than the others in the flesh! (can't help with your list as we were looking at larger cars - Mazda 6 / Passat / Avensis / Mondeo)0 -
have you considered a skoda octavia diesel, very good on fuel consumption. tha boot space is huge compared to other cars we have had and a lot cheaper than a vw, we had a second hand 1 and so impressed with it bought a new one, have owned a golf and polo in the past and tought they were excellent cars.0

I went to take a look at the new MG6 at the weekend. I didn't test drive it, but I was very impressed by it's build quality and level of equipment. But a diesel is not yet available."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

There is no choice for anyone to make but you if thats the final list. If your getting it brand new then they will all be covered by the warranty so it really comes down to which one to YOU want. They are pretty much all the same give or take
If it were me i'd ditch the bottom two for a start, then it would be Audi, seat, VW then the mazda dependant on the spec. Decide what toys you want and see which gives you all or the most of the items you actually want. good luckEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Yeah, going to book in some test drives asap. Have to admit I'm leaning towards the Audi, it is the most expensive of the bunch, but not by much (292pm v Golf 286pm). was curious if anyone else had faced a similar choice and what they had plumped for0

Id go for the audi over the golf but the seat maybe be better spec'd for less money and they're made by the same company anyway.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

No one can really make any kind of proper recommendation thats worth listening to, it'll all come down to individual choice, what might suit one wont suit another. You really need to take a drive or at least sit in each, check the child seats fit, you can get all the family crap in the boot, theres enough door pockets etc, that the seats are boke and piddle proof and thats just for the adults. Me personally, i'd not touch a pug or citroen, I drive an audi and love it but it's not an A3 which i would think is a bit small for a family, not keen on the seat so i'd be choosing between the Golf or Mazda and probably end up with the Golf, but thats just me and if it were my choice i'd probably end up with an octavia:rotfl:0

As said, your better off looking at Skoda.. If your not a badge snob your going to get an AMAZING car for the money! Its just a golf underneath with a more generous standard kit and lower price
Get rid of the french crap for defo0 -
have also owned a seat and was impressed, but audi,vw, seat? for the difference in price we got a octavia vrs. octavia you pay extra for options that maybe included with an audi but the difference in price is thousands comparing them both0

Have you considered a Mitsubishi 1.8D ASX?. 4 door, 3 seats in the back so one can fold down for extra boot space.
I'm getting high 50's mpg on a long motorway/A road run (I've got a lighter foot than OH).0
