Yes I'm stupid...but do I NEED to have a phoneline to get broadband?

Hi all...

As the title suggest yes I'm stupid when it comes to things like this....t e c h n o l o g y....*shudder* and it has probably been asked on her countless times.....

Do I HAVE to have a phoneline to get broadband?

At the moment i'm with Virgin and i'm going to ask them about decreasing my payments but if the deal is not good enough then I think i'm not that bothered about the TV as freeview will suffice....I think it will be better actually as it will stop me wanting to watch certain things on TV lol!! I don't use the phone line at all really so am not bothered about this.

All I really need is the broadband...Can I get this through anywhere else that's not virgin media as just cable or something broadband and pay for this with no phone line charge etc?

Also is there any out there anyone recommends...obviously I want it to be as cheap as poss don't we all lol!!

Thanks

Maz

As far as I know, Virgin Media are the only company who will provide broadband without the need for a phoneline.

If you cancel Virgin then you will need a phoneline to get anyone else's broadband service.
  • If you have Virgin cable then no, you don't need a phone line.

If you can't get cable, then yes, you need a phone line to have ADSL broadband. Unless you use a 3G modem which can be cheap if you don't use it much, it won't be anywhere near as fast as cable in the majority of situations, though can compare very well to broadband via a phone line.

If you use it a lot, it will probably be more expensive.
