Hi Guys,

Thought I'd put this to the knowledgable folks out there...

Should we go for the brand new 1.6 TDCI or the 2.0 TDCI?

As simple as that.

I always thought, for a larger car, a 1.6 might not be adequate, but the reviews say it is fine. Other bonuses include insurance, better fuel economy etc.

Thank you

Sonny

    Depends on your lifestyle.

Do you just pootle around town, school run, kids clubs etc? Then get the 1.6.

Do you travel long distances, go camping with the car fully loaded, intend to travel 7 up regularly? Get the 2.0

I'd imagine that the 1600 would be more than adequate. Factor in the improved fuel economy and insurance and you probably won't go far wrong with that.

Its when you load a bit of weight into the car you notice the lack in capacity. A larger engine will pull
    with less effort.

Camping club mag recently did their towcar tests and although some 1.6 / 2.0L cars had similar power
the larger engine cars were more flexible and towed better.
Wider spread of power with the bigger engine, Smaller engine was nothing nothing nothing all the power
then its gone. Where the bigger units pulled from less revs

Thanks for your responses! Really appreciate it :)

    Usage
It will be used around town carrying 2 people (Driver + passenger) and a few bags of shopping 2-3 times a week.

3-4 times a month it will be loaded with 4 (sometimes 5 ) people to go on the motorway. For example, London to Cambridge, London to Birmingham, London to Chelmsford, with a little luggage. The 3rd and 4th person like to have room in the back, hence the reason for going for the GRAND C-max as opposed to the regular C-max.

Test drive one and find 4 of your fattest friends then find a few hills. Is the performance acceptable?

1 thing of note was that we went to Part Ex with our Toyota Yaris (2005, 30k miles, 5dr, 1.3 VVTi). CATEGORY D

It runs absolutely fine and has been giving us (from the top of my head) 40-45mpg with no probs. A bit of pain wear and 2 tyres need replacing, otherwise it is good.

Aart from the Ford, we also went to see the Toyota Verso. Very suave and polite salesman there (I guess they need the customers after the recalls). He said the best he could offer is £1,500 because it is category D, and how he wouldn't make any money on it and he'd have to send it to auction etc.
Then he changed his mind and said it will be £1000 only!

We walked out straightaway and went to Dagenham Ford. He said the same thing an offered us £2400!

The car is better than the verso but I hope Ford's Service is as good as Toyotas, in general.

I'd say the 2.0TDCi ! Those engines pull like a train. And they have a lot of top end power, Great engines for towing, Heavy loads, Long journeys, And everyday driving.

The 1.6TDCi is good ! But it runs out of steam to quickly ! But it entirely depends on what you want from your car, And only you will be able to choose.

Take both for a test drive and see which you prefur.

The specs say the 1.6L is more economical.

(This is combined. In town the 1.6L is even better).

It will never be fully loaded or used to tow. Maximum/most heavy use will be 4 or 5 people going to Manchester (from London) with a change of clothes to stay the night at the outlaws.

Went in today and did an initial order for the 1.6L. The 2.0L AUTOMATIC wuld have been ideal but the wait for that is anothe month or so (after September).
