I've never seen a walk in freezer without a lever to open it on the inside, so I am horrified!
anonymous call to HSE?Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Was exactly like that when I worked at Somerfield in 2007 - tbh I just figured it was part of the job! Left every day with trapped fingers, banged shins etc and most of my work was in the walk-in freezer so always wore gloves and a scarf for the many occasions I was locked in my accident!
Don't know why I didn't think more of it when I was there, was just the way things were done so I got on with it... Looking back it can't have been very good!0 -
I find this very odd. The reason the door swings shut like that is to prevent the temperature rising to a level that will allow bacterial growth. What your wife should find is an emergency button inside the freezer that unlocks the door from inside.
Of course food shouldn't be on the floor, it will attract vermin and pests.
I've lost count of how many times I've been locked in the freezer. One time it was even slammed shut by the manager, because he thought it had been left open. LOL.0 -

It is part of the job. Once the chef dumped a basket of chips straight out of the fryer on my arm. I had the most horrific blisters up my forearm after that.0 -

Why isn't she wearing her PPE? This means she is the one breaking Health and Safety.0 -
Was kind of the attitude I took! Have had a few jobs in the hospitality industry and have been burned on more occasions than I'd care to remember lol. Mostly due to my own error (slipping etc) but either way, never something I've complained about.GothicStirling wrote: »It is part of the job. She does have a responsibility for health and safety as much as the employer and she DOES need to refuse to do things unsafely if she knows it is not safe. Not easy but she is partly liable for some of what has happened.
And yes 'sorting out' her manager is only likely to let you see the inside of a police cell. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

I don't agree, there would have been a safe way for that chef to have got those chips out without burning you.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
