Samsung TV - Manufacturer repair the only option?
Comments
-
I had a problem with a Samsung 32" TV which I bought from Currys. The fault developed last year about 3 months after buying it.
Currys told me to contact Samsung and their local repair shop (or agent) sorted it out in about a week.
When I questioned whose responsibility it was to fix the problem Currys agreed that it was theirs but pointed out they are free to appoint Samsung to handle the repair for them so they do actually comply with the sale of goods act.0 -
Thanks to everyone who posted, very good to receive such rapid clarification.
I have now organised with Samsung to have the television repaired under their warranty. It still doesn't quite sit right that the retailer can uses the manufacturer's warranty to meet their SOGA responsibilities but in practice I'm happy as I should have my TV returned within 7 days.

Well that depends, in this case it's samsung who do the repairs, as it looks like they like to keep a tight control on aftersales service.
And it's not a retailer using the manufacturers warranty to meet the SoGA, it's just Samsung and LG don't allow Dixons to repair within 1st year. (well not allowing probably isn't right, (Dixons would prefer to do the after sales repair providing they got a discount on the purchase price upfront (like other manufacturers) it's probably the case Dixons saw it would cost them in the long run as Samsung/LG weren't offering a big enough discount to cover 1st year.0
