Well I was speaking to my friend earlier this week who told me there was a cat who was either lost or abandoned cos he was near a very busy road and had been for a while, his fur was matted and not very clean but he was really friendly.
He was taken to a vets who said there was nothing that could be done, no microchip or collar, needed a good brush and feeding up but was generally ok and to put him back where he was found.
Of course i piped up that I'd give him a home if he comes back, I got a call this morning and went to go get him, he's lovely
I'm planning on finding out if he does have a home somewhere and treat him as a temporary guest and then after that he can stay permanantly if all goes ok.
Just wondering what the best plan of action is?
Going to give him a good brush later once he's off my bed, his paws are grubby but not sure what i can do about that, baths are generally not an option for moggys! will check for fleas too and any sign of injury, nothing can see so far though.
I have had cats before but never one thats so unknown, hope he's happy here with me

Awwww chocdonuty, that's great - and so good to hear that he's found a "temporary" home.
It's such a shame when people don't have their pets microchipped.:(
You could place ads in local vets/shops etc, although some cats do end up many miles from home.
Another idea is to "log" him with cat charities in the area and there are several national websites dedicated to lost pets:
http://www.catlost.org.uk/
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php
http://www.nationalpetregister.org/dir/lost-cats.htm
http://www.cats.org.uk/ (find the one "local" to you)
You may have to register to post on some of them
Re getting clean, yup, most cats HATE baths:D - he will probably clean him self up in time. If his coat's really matted, a little bit at a time, however, you may have to cut out some if they are really bad.
Glad he's found somewhere to call home for now, and if you've no luck tracing the owner, even more glad he's found a "forever" home and I'm sure he'll be very happy:DGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Congratulations on the new addition!! I have Daisy chipped even tho she's a house cat, just in case.0

You can get pet wet wipes which he might not mind for a quick clean all over and especially for his paws if they're quite bad. Or just use a pack of sensitive baby wipes like the pampers ones. We always have baby wipes in the house."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0

He's not a large dark tabby is he?
Mine's been gone 3 weeks now.....They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
sorry no, he's black and white large and rather fluffy!
I have put up notices to try and locate his owner, nothing yet.
Only thing i'm concered about is he hasn't used the loo since i got him about 7 hours ago! although if he hasn't eaten or drank for a while it might take a bit of time, hopefully he'll make it to the litter tray though!:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -

You let him on your bed - Yuck!! - I would check that for fleas too now!!"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Bit irresponsible of the vet to suggest putting an obvious stray back near a busy road, I thought most vets would hand them over to a cat rescue place.
Anyway, glad he has found a home now.0 -
Will find out more what the vet said tomorrow, i wasn't there and nor was my friend, it was someone else who she works with. I can only presume the rescue centres were full as when i phoned they asked if i wanted to put him on the waiting list
As for fleas I don't think he has any but anyways i'm not allergic so they don't bother me,:D will still treat him though:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
still not been to the loo yet!
i've been sat here pulling all the sticky balls (burrs ?) from his coat, lovely creature that he his, rolled onto his back so i could do his tummyHe's got quite a bit of matted fur and i've cut a few lumps out of it will let him sleep now, still on my bed lol
