File and Settings transfer wizzard will not transfer office programs from one pc to another, it will only transfer settings and your saved files.
thanks - but i can't even do this as i don't have the wizard cd it keeps asking for. No one seems to know where i can get one from or whether it was meant to come with the lappy!Thomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

Thanks but it's not that i can't find/open the wizzard...at the point of asking for a cd to complete the transfer, i don't have one. it doesn't even allow me the option of using a blank discThomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

Yes, this is indeed a good deal for the price, but the spec is a tad low for my taste. But I disagree about Acer support, they are brilliant. My laptop kicked the bucket due to my own stupidity in trying to re-partition it within the first half an hour of using it and thus deleting the restore partition, but they were great about it, shipped me a replacement the next day, collected the busted one at the same time and that was that. None of the hassle about returning the replacement, blah, blah. And their tech support people actually know what they're talking about, unlike Toshiba and others who're most likely Post-grad comp degree students without an ounce of practical knowledge. You cannot fix computers out of a textbook! Take it from one who had his first computer at the age of eleven, and was training people in computer maintainance less than a year later. And they teach us pesky MS Office in school? That's a crime!
Right, sorry about that rant. But I've seen the machine in question, a couple of taxi drivers I routinely drive with bought one each, and we had a good time playing with it in the car. Go for it, i'd say.

Ahh dribs and drabs when you first turned the laptop on a program will have opened up telling you to BURN YOUR OWN restore CD's. You need either 2 DVD's or 7CD's
This laptop does not come with CD's, you make your own
Partly why its a bit cheap0 -
We think it's fab - it arrived yesterday - my oh was a bit sceptical at my deciding I wanted this one cos of the reviews on here - he knows I'm an addict - but since he's arrived he agrees it's great - looks very high quality, compared to £100 more Compaq at Currys and PC World, which we looked at instore and looked really tinny - just over £50 with quidco, £5 off, clubcard points etc - I recommend it to any other non-techies out there looking for a good value (anf for what it's worth, good looking) laptop.
Thanks all for the advice - would probably have bought another Dell otherwise and this is much better.0 -
I must say I'm quite impressed.:o
I paid £332.98 with staff discount a further £7.87 off thanks to Quidco and 832 clubcard points to boot.
Out of the box: It's v slim/light & looks v slick too.
After burning the two recovery disks I set it up to my wireless network which was a breeze.
Pros: Looks more than it cost, comes with some nice bundled software, Good build quality, price, screen. Easy to use.
Cons: battery life could be better, speakers could be better positioned & louder.
Would I recomend: Yes
Remember movies have to be played at the laptop highest setting "Entertainment" otherwise the playback will appear choppy due to the processor performance being decreased. So make sure you have a mains supply near by as the battery will not last long at this setting at all.0 -
Does movies include video files on the hard drive or just DVDs?0
-
Movies played from CDs or DVDs will require more power due to the spinning and reading from the disc drive. This is often considered to take more power than simply reading from the hard drive, although the actual rendering of the movie has no difference in power consumption either way.
Tip: this applies to any time of CD or DVD. I use a program called Daemon Tools. You can create an image of the CD/DVD, store it on your hard drive and then use Daemon Tools to run that image as though it were a physical disc. Great for games requiring the game disc, or for programs where you routinely require the install Cd. You can also use it for DVDs or video CDs. It saves you having to keep swapping discs around.Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.0 -
Does it come with a wired network connector and is it the latest version of Windows media center?0
