Downgrading Santander Reward Bank Account

Hi

I'm making some big cutbacks and one of the things that is going is my Santander Reward Account which i'm paying £10 a month for and recieving no benefit from. Does anyone know what i need to do to downgrade the account? Can i do it over the phone or online? Or do i have to pop into the branch? I'm worried if i go into the branch they will try and talk me out of it!

Thanks in advance! :D

With Santander it's difficult to do anything out of the ordinary without going into a branch

The good things is it's done straight away - I changed from Premium to preferred, and it was done instantly on the system - it was showing in my online banking by the time i'd got home

    Hi there,

I have some bad news for you regarding the Reward account - you will not be able to downgrade the account and the only way to prevent further charges of £10 pm will be to close it.

I expect that they'd happily upgrade you but they certainly won't agree to a downgrade. I was a customer with them for over 12 years and fell for their sales pitch regarding the Reward upgrade - my fault for not taking time to review the T's & C's.

I am sure you can downgrade the account but it must be in branch.
  • You can downgrade it, I did it in branch after I kicked up enough of a fuss. They may not want to do it, but they can! lol

Well done. Personally a bank that you need to kick up a fuss with is not worth the time of day. Good luck with their fantastic service efforts in the future.

They downgraded my account from premium to preferred without any trouble.
