Clean install of Win 7 on a Vista laptop

I personally prefer a clean install without all the OEM rubbish - 95% of it is either there to sell you something (affiliate links to ebay, demo versions of software), or duplicates functionality which Windows does better (eg wireless network connections). If you do a full clean install, your life will be better, hair shinier and singing purer.
I agree with most of what you said except the part where you said that windows handles wireless connections better. The reality is that almost any bundled software or otherwise is better than microsofts own.0 -
Have a quick check to see that your drive is actually being recognised by Windows. Open My Computer and see if the drive is listed, usually called D or E drive.
If it isn't there you need to download some new drivers for the CD drive.
Hiya. I've had a look and it's listed:
DVD/RW Drive F:
I've had a look at the song vaio website re drivers but am not sure which one to get....:( http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?old=n&l=en_GB&m=VGN-N21E_W0 -

backup all your data
download software that you can (any of the free stuff you use)
install windows 7, restore data, install the free software again, and then for the other software, provided you have your Vaio install disks you should be able to reinstall, others you will be able to get from their website( along with any missing drivers)
You are a little late, and you are just repeating what has already been said. The OP has since formatted his computer, reinstalled the OS and restored his CD drivers.0
