Redundancy and original position within company

I am on redundancy notice only worked with company for 4 years so not much money on offer.

I had a promotion to a different department after 3 months of working and received a salary increase. They have vacancies for the original position i was employed in, but when i queried the salary i was informed that because they are advertising for staff it would be at that rate, so i would be working for less than my original starting salary 4 years ago. A drop of £280.00 a month:eek:

Does anyone have any advice

THANKS

£280/month net or gross? Would you enjoy the work? Could you live on reduced income? Compare it with JSA/likelihood of obtaining alternative work paying more.

Gross pay, and if i hadn't have had the promotion to another department then i doubt if i'd have stayed longer than 6 months. I will hate every minute of it.

Check the redundancy policy to see whether there is any reference to a period of time that current pay is protected for someone taking a lower level job.

You find this principally in the public sector. It's usually you get same pay for up to 2 years or till the pay in the new job reaches the same as the protected pay, whichever is sooner.

However much less likely to be included in private sector organisation.

Are they actually suggesting that the original job as an alternative and that if you don't take it you will not receive redundancy pay?

No i actually asked if i could be re-employed to my original position as there are vacancies. Never been in this situation before so don't really know what the procedure is. But don't really want to take it for less money than when i actually done the job.

Will give ACAS a ring tomorrow, see i they can offer any advice.

If the wage of the original job has reduced, you have no right to "your old wage". You can accept the job as a suitable alternative to redundancy if you want to, but it is on the current terms of the job and not what you previously had.
