Just booked our trip to Phuket in Easter for two weeks. We'll be at Surin beach and one of the most family friendly hotel according to Internet. I know Easter will be very hot but at least it won't be raining much. Just want to ask did you enjoy your trip? Was patong really as bad as some people's comments here?

Edit - i'm a pillock, i've just seen the date, so why did I bother responding to this, what a waste of 5 minutes.

Shullen if you are staying at The Surin on Surin Beach you'll love it. best beach on the island. However, there are only 2 hotels on the beach itself, and I doubt you're at the Aman. Other hotels can be around the corner, or not on the beach.

    Patong is horrific.

Thanks. Our hotel says it is 3 mins walk to the beach and it is called the Courtyard by Marriott.

Courtyard by Marriot is nice. Right next to hard Rock cafe. I stayed at the Holiday Inn across the road. You are well away from ping pong area. You dont have to go near it as there are bars before you come to it and plenty small bars across the road. You still get bar girls there but its nothing like Bangla road although it is worth a one night visit.

There are some lovely trips so do explore Phi Phi is a must.

I found one company do the speed boat trip to Phi Phi at 1500THB per adult. Is that dodgy? Because everyone else is about twice that price.

Read these articles about how good Phuket is nowadays. Have travelled there numerous times since the mid 80's and son has lived there since prior Tsunami. Even he says it is totally corrupt and rip-off island. Wife went Nov 2009 and could not wait to fly off to Chiang Mai, hire a car and drive around the north. We now will not intentionaly go back again, as far prefer Cambodia & Vietnam.
Beware the tuk-tuk drivers/ jet ski operators and also some speedboat operators.
