I wonder what did you expect? To go away without paying?
    You can cancel the contract.
The early cancellation fee is £105.
Pay it and you are free to go together with your number.

It is not a rip off, you signed a contract , so either see the contract out or buy the contract out.
You can cancel the contract by paying whats outstanding to end of the contract minus vat.
As grumbler said - 'what did you expect ?' !!!

On that point, don't decide "S*d them then! I will give up my number and cancel my DD and go to someone else (before the end of the contract)".

You need to see the contract out to the end, otherwise the repercussions to your credit record would not be pleasant. Just thought I'd throw that in.
  • Just called to gt my PAC code as my 18 month deal with virgin ends on the 15th. they said I have to give 30 days so am liable for further line rental beyond then - is this correct?

That is correct, and standard across all the networks.

Even if you have completed the minimum term on your contract, you still have to give 30 days notice to cancel and its chargeable. Your final bill will include this amount.

This will be on your Terms and Conditions which you will have agreed to when you first took out the contract.
  • Fair enough, doesn't really especially consumer friendly though, especially as you are given no prompt that the period is coming to an end.

Bit like BT when your phone deal comes to an end, banks when the first year's bonus interest top up ends and you go back to 0.05%, energy companies, Sky, ISP's, all other mobile networks, phone insurance ....................the list goes on.

Diary all renewal dates in future.

Very Annoyed, are you trying to get away from Virgin because of upcoming price increases??

If so, I believe you can cancel immediately (section 10.2 gives the right to cancel).
