Free BT BB Upgrades....?

I only have a 10GB BT Total broadband internet limit. This has normally been more than enough in the past 2 years, but since April I've been watching stuff on iPlayer and listening to radio shows I've missed (e.g. Frank Skinner, Danny Baker, etc). I've just had my bill and BT have charged me an extra £35 for the past 3 months of 'over-usage'! Apparently I used 20GB too much in April
This iPlayer stuff is the only change in my internet use.
I did contact BT and they agreed to refund the extra charge. However, I've checked my usage for the first 2 days of July and I'm already over half a GB. I decided to stop watching/listening to streaming and ration my YouTube viewing but......0.5GB in just over a day is unbelievable.
Is there any way BT would upgrade my limit to 40GB/higher free-of-charge?
I'm reluctant to change ISPs because BT have been the only 100% reliable provider I've ever had. Plus, I'm in a contract.

Free of charge, no. There's no reason for them to do so. However I'm sure they do have more expensive packages with higher allowances.
0.5GB is not unbelievable. A half hour TV show can be about 500MB to 650MB (0.5GB to 0.65GB), a film is about 1.2GB.0 -
I 've been watching Sky Sport online since earlier this am - just checked and I've used 4GB !!0

I have the unlimited broadband with bt as heavily use iplayer, download songs and movies etc from itunes, plus my son is xbox live nut so is on internet dowlanding maps etc....., but I have no worries as it is all covered no matter what. I have to do it that way as a unexpected bill would freak me out. Might be time as you say to upgrade, but you will have to pay for it.

Thanks.
I'm sure I read on here that if you pull the old 'I'm thinking of leaving you, BT' trick then they will tend to offer you something/a better deal......?0 -
They might. However you are restricting yourself voluntarily to a single ISP, admittedly in the belief that, no, actually - the reality that - they have worked well for you in the past. I would recommend you look around at options, because if you call to cancel (migrate) it's much more credible if you say where you're going and why.0
