I uninstalled Norton IS 2012 using W7 Programs & Features, then used their RemovalTool 2012.0.5.15. Elements remain eg inProgram Files & HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software etc. Nortons know this - have a look at the dozens of forums which TRY and deal with this.
Aparrently I have a lot more folders & files lurking including in the Registry. Nortons are employing unethical marketing and damaging the very thing you pay them to protect - your PC security. In any other sector they would be sued. Why is software different to a TV?
  • Having worked with many AV vendors the ones I tend to avoid due and reasons are as follows:

    Symantec/Norton: Resource Intensive
Anything free such as AVG/AVAST etc for a long term solution

Free from Banks: Use them** they are fully licensed!
    Kapersky from Barclays
    Mcaffee from MBNA

** both of these I find are resource intensive BUT if you adjust some of the settings they become more user friendly

As to my preferences for paid AV
TrendMicro : often top of best performing
    Sophos : supporting British suppliers
