One thing that may be a concern to the OP's relative is this may not be the end of it, it's usual when thieves are caught at work in retail for an internal investigation to check the CCTV etc to ensure this was a one off incident, the costs of checking tend to be passed onto the person caught stealing via civil recovery after the investigation is completed.0

I have a feeling it is M&S. What other clothing retailers sell chocolates?
And M&S have a shocking record of waste with their food. As do all of the supermarkets!!
Could be NEXT I have seen chocolates within that price bracket sold in there before.0 -
Or alternatively - because many people can't tell the difference, the police sent round a couple of PCSO's who were on their rounds anyway, because they think the whole matter is a waste of their time (which it is) but if the "perpetrator" doesn't pay up then the employer is going to waste hours and hours of the polices time by insisting on reporting it as a theft, so they are just doing the best they can to clear it up informally and quickly so that they don't have to spend hours over a piece of chocolate.
Yes - it's likely. At the back of my mind I was wondering whether they were real police - it's a really odd scenario.
The whole thing seems to be an over-reaction from employer, but we only hear part of it - it might have been prevalent in the store. For my part i would not want to charge on this - even tho' it is strictly a breach of trust.Sealed Pot challenge 2011 member 1051 - aiming for £365

They have sacked him but he did steal from them. Send a couple of uniforms round. The chocolate probably cost less than a pound. We haven't got any other serious crimes to investigate - we may as well go and scare him because this is a guaranteed prosecution seeing that he is on CCTV and admitted it. It will be a nice "crime solved" for the stats!"
Utterly ridiculous and heavy handed by both the company and the police.
Please name the company.
I'd just pay the fiver for it to be forgotten about.
Could have been sent back to the supplier for a credit but because it has been eaten is not valid for all we know.
Would I have sacked him.....yes, would I have reported it to the police....No.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

It is damned good advice .
It may be beyond the understanding of the limited intellect of some members who can only resort to poo slinging in place of debate , but nether less, it is advice that has saved many many thousands of people a lot of trouble.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
