Same boat here - booked in September last year for 2 flights to San Franciso on 26th July - will be seriously not amused if we have to cancel all our accommodation bookings, car hire etc.

Absolutely, and you're right in just about everything you say.

But I have no time for people that strike - I take the view that if you are unhappy in your job - Get another.

I feel sorry for OP who wants to know if they're getting the trip they have paid for.

However, can I just say, people don't usually choose to strike - unions call strikes and it the members of the union don't do it then they will be put out of the union. They feel they need the union for various reasons, not just to strike when they don't get what they want. It's not as simple as people just deciding to strike.

We are due to fly out mid next week. Each time I see the upset in my daughters eyes, it's emotionally crushing. Although and hopefully we may still be able to go, we just cannot get excited in case we have disappointment.

I'm self employed and have had to hire people to cover my work whilst I'm away, so if we don't get to go, I still have to (and would) honour my commitment to the people I in turn have hired, so kind of a double whammy. I could be sat at home, not going anywhere, paying people to do my job whilst seeing my very unhappy children.

We have started some sort of contingency plan, such as costing up new flights...cheapest I can get is another £2.5k!! And that's with BA!

Unions and Virgin management were locked in talks all last week trying to get to an agreement. BALPA has said it is considering its position over the weekend and talks will continue on Monday. It implies that they've been given something to think about.

Personally, I still don't think this will end in a strike. I know its hard but try and focus on the holiday (I was in the same boat last year with BA).

I sincerely hope so - we have had a bad year this year with me being off sick and having 3 lots of surgery, and my mum being diagnosed with cancer and having chemo - we need a break!

Hopefully there will be some definite information on this one way or another soon as this has just appeared on the BALPA website

"BALPA remains in talks with Virgin Atlantic. These talks are scheduled to finish today and BALPA NEC will be discussing the way forward tomorrow".
