anyones dog afraid of toy guns, swords and light sabers?!

my collie ls a strange one,

we rehomed her shortly after rehoming our patterdale and she is the most lovely dog ever, rarely goes on the lead, stays by my side at the road, brings the ball back, gets on with everyone ect

apart from when she see's a light saber, gun. sword, even the hoover! she tries to go for it ( not in a nasty way just tries to get it to away from her )( but when, for example, the hoover is in the other room turned off she will try and get it, the same with my sons light sabers and swords.)

any one else dogs do this?

she was a sheep dog for her first year of her life so i can maybe understand a gun but not the sword, light saber or hoover.

  • Ben's not keen on the hoover (or the lawn-mower) but he tends to run away rather than try to "get it".

Does she try to push them away, pick them up, bark at them etc????

  • What is the difference between a vaccuum hose, a lightsabre, a toy sword and a big stick used to wallop a puppy?

Probably not a great deal in the eyes of the dog concerned.

mine was tied up in a carrier bag when she was found.. She is still terrified of them 5 years later.
She was a working dog and is also afraid of guns, sticks, lightsabres, the hoover, the scary mop, the horrible broom, etc etc :(

Vacuum cleaners and dustbin bags being shaken out are large objects that move and suddenly start making noises. Not that different to predators or other adversaries.

Oh yes, he's a collie/border t cross and is just.... well mental.

He's scared of everything outside - cars, people walking past, bikes, push chairs, everything. He refuses to walk and it's heartbreaking (and hard) making him because he walks a few steps and jumps up and walks a few - and jumps up.

He's not a rescue dog but he is the runt of the litter and his parents were rescue dogs so I wonder if that may have something inbred in him.

He's also scared of water so bathing him is hard, he's a lot better than eh was though he'll try and leap out the bath. I had to bath him with me for a few times because he'd scream and try and climb up the bath to get out and shake furiously - now all he does is shake and mutter under his breath. Funny thing is he loves being sprayed with water from a sprayer and the watering can so he gets washed like that in the summer.

The worst is his light issue, he goes mad if a torch is on, takes a few minutes to get used to the lamps going on - and goes mental if things are reflected in the house (like traffic lights outside through the curtains during dark winter nights and the sunlight reflecting on stuff (or those orange lights on dustbin lorries each tuesday....

So yes. He's hard work, but he's adorable and very loving and daft :D

ETA: Oh, he also can't stand the vaccum and 'attacks it' when it's on, ditto molly but she's a yorkie/border t cross and is just copying him like she does staring and going mental at the lights reflecting, there's nothing wrong with her ;)

My Shepherd detests the Dyson, with a passion - I have stopped using it and only use my Roomba now. If he got to it he would kill it. Everything else... totally horizontal, fireworks, thunder, cars backfiring... no sweat.

Sid is also very laid back, apart from if my daughter blows a raspberry at him, and then he runs away and hides!!

My dog's scared of the emmerdale theme tune (the old one not the stupid new one) and ladders! He's not bothered about the hoover, I have to budge him off his mat when I hoover and he walks off in a huff.

Mines scared of cardboard rolls (The kind when you finish with wrapping paper). When you pick it up he runs. Hes also scared of empty water bottles. Unsure what all thats about.

He did give me a fright one day when I was moving the lawn. He normally sits on the patio, this one day he just ran at it, got the corner in his mouth and lifted it up. Now always make sure hes in when I do it.
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:
