£324 saving with Vodafone

Something that I don't know whether it's been mentioned before, but can't find it on the forums is with Vodafone.

Voda phoned me yesterday asking about switching deal, however I was about to go into a meeting, so took relevant info and left it at that.

Phoned them back today, was offered the same contract (sim-only) for £6/month less than originally stated, whilst at the same time gaining free line rental for the 1st three months of a further 12 months. This has left a £270 saving over what I was originally expecting, on a business plan, before VAT is taken into consideration, which means I'm saving £324 over a year, equivalent to an extra night in the pub for me and Vika every week

Ask specifically for a business plan when speaking to an advisor, even if you don't use it for work, as I find that on my personal mobile (I run 2), this can work out a lot cheaper. I don't know of any limitations with this, as I stated that this will NOT be used for business :D

If my maths doesn't fail me, this means that now you pay £66+VAT p.m. for a sim-only contract that you use for 2 mobiles.

I wonder what you are getting for £80ish so that you can call it "a lot cheaper" than other tariffs.

I didn't word that as well as I could have done. I'm at the end of a 24 month contract, with BlackBerry, 1000mins/month, plus 2 bundles, for £45ish+VAT.

I've been offered just over £20/month+VAT to keep the handset and bundles, whilst going to 1200mins/month, with 3 months free line rental (which is apparently something for existing customers, but worth a try if you're new, that's how they got me in the 1st place!)

Add to the fact that 2 weeks in, I'm nearly at my minutes limit, which I've been promised will be refreshed at midnight, along with 200 international minutes, which I'm just over 150 through, that's a potential saving of £150 on calls to Russia also this month, which is also free, cancelled before it charges, and switched to the other phone. They haven't worked out I'm playing them...YET! That was not included in the original calculation.

An educated guess for sorting the 2 phones out today is that I'll be £700+ up over the next year, bearing in mind I'm saving from day 1, not when they're due to expire in 4 and 1 month respectively. I know where I'm coming from on these figures, but I have just confused 2 people with this.

I am lost in your figures, but the true cost of 200 minutes to Russia is about £2 if you use inclusive minutes or £3-£4 if you call from a landline.

It's just over £1/minute without the international bundles, I did phone VF and ask. As with the landline, I seriously don't know the answer to that one

Only naive people make calls abroad directly from mobiles (unless it's Lebara or Licamobile - 5p/min to Russia both). If they charged £10/min. would you say that you saved £1.5K?
Without any bundles you can use inclusive minutes to call for 1p/min, e.g. http://www.teletop.co.uk/rates.php#r

NEVER agree to ANYTHING with Vodafone over the phone. ALWAYS get it CLEARLY and unequivocally in writing BEFOREHAND - even if you think it's a good deal - or risk joing the endless queue of similar innocents who didn't get what they were promised and then can't extricate themselves from it.

I was on the office phone, which is always recorded in any case. I fell into that trap, however the only reason I'm still with them is that they're the only network offering a decent signal where I live, in the middle of just about nowhere!

Yes, they did know it was being recorded, before anyone tells me I've broken the law. Most you are okay, there's always one smart (edited by admin!)

Even if they didn't know about recording, you wouldn't had broken the law.
You just wouldn't be able to use the recording in the court as the evidence.
