Preloading a card

I'm off to Morrocco in a couple of weeks and have got a Post Office card as my overseas spending card. Due to the difficulties of getting Dihrams before going over I was thinking about preloading the card with a few hundred quid and then withdrawing when there.
Obviously I'll have the fee to pay for cash withdrawls but there shouldnt be any interest to pay.

Is my cunning plan flawed?

Most credit card providers do not allow preloading of cards and may return the money from where it came.

What you could do is estimate how much you will withdraw abroad and set up a payment to your credit card to coincide with when you withdraw the cash.

I have also heard of credit card providers who have suspended the account due to the 'suspicious activity' of the card being put into credit, leaving the cc holder stuck without the use of either the card nor the funds they've pre-loaded.

You could try emailing Aziz - email above (plus reviews on his service on second link)

He is THE MAN to deal with in Morocco (he is usually based in Tangiers, but I know he does other trips around and about for small groups.)

I cannot recommend him highly enough for his professionalism and top rate customer service.

Yes, he will take you 'certain shops' on your route of the Kasbah, but he has to make a living too.
I remember when we made our 3 day trip from Spain you could use the ATM for cash, but the shops would also accept foreign currency. Aziz would also buy off you any Euros/Exchange for Dihrams as he also lives in Spain.

Not sure how good the exchange rate was though.. but if you are not going to be spending too much -then maybe OK?

Have a great trip - but hope you are prepared for the 'basic-ness' of it all :D

:D You don't actually know if he offers a good exchange rate and you have no benchmark as to the price and quality of his 'tours'.

I think our members would do better to use the ATM and to do a little research. No need to pay someone to take you to a shop from which they earn commissions.

Shops would accept foreign currency??:rotfl: I'm sure they gave you a bargain price.

Is not doing a comparison and researching extensively before choosing my guide not a good way of benchmarking?

If this guide is good enough for The President, then he is good enough for me.

(He has been handpicked on many occasions for VIP's due to his impeccible service and professionalism. Likewise, he still charges very competative rates for personalised tours for us 'normal folk'. Eu50 pperson per day is a steal when you need someone to watch your back and who also offers such excellent service)

Have you been to Morocco? Would you like to share your experiences with us ;)

Yes, I've been a few times. Cycled to Algeciras from Malaga and hopped on a boat to Tangiers. Used Sterling and changed it there. Flew to Agadir. Used Sterling and changed it there. Flew to Fez. Used my plastic to withdraw cash from the ATM.
Didn't need a guide. Didn't need someone to act as a 'money changer' and didn't need someone to take me to shops in order to earn themselves commissions.
