i think we've forgot the obvious... when you put the wrong password in it should give you the password hint and the option to reset the password...

    Hi scheming_gypsy

underneath the password, to change it and then it said,
"to use this wizard, you must first create a password reset disk. There is no disk to put in the drawer.

Yes, i said, there is nothing on the screen to log into.

No, it is just a box, with a picture of a Marigold, with my mums name underneath it.

Kingsd316, no it can't have anything to do with the link you posted, as it says the following

    Overview
    1. Logon to Vista using your usual account.
    2. Launch the cmd prompt - Make sure you select, 'Run as administrator'
    3. Net user administrator p£ssw0rD
    4. Net user administrator /active:yes
    5. Switch User, or logoff
    6. Logon as Administrator Password p£ssw0rD
      (Your password may be different!)
My mum can't even log on to Vista!!! Or anything else. Nothing on the screen only this picture of a Marigold in a box, my mums name and the password, then underneath saying you can reset your password but need to have created a password reset disk.

start the computer in safe mode and see if the admin account is available to login with if it is use the blank password then reset your mums password in the control panel, if the admin account isn't available and you have the windows disk you can probably enable it using the automated recovery console.

Sorry if i was not clear, that link wasn't really there to help you in your current situation, I was questioning a method that was previously given to you by mj12 in post 4 about using safe mode - I wasnt sure if it would have worked as vista admin accounts are slightly different to conventional XP admin accounts, however it appear that it will work using safe mode so i would follow the advise in post 4.

Then once you have changed the password it might be worth using the link i posted to set up an actual visual admin account so if this ever happens again you dont need to boot into safe mode as you will be able to log in as the admin from the usual login screen

If there is nothing on it you want, download the manual from the hp website, and restore to factory settings either from factory restore partition, or windows disc
