icardmobile network is only 6ppm calls to mobiles and 2ppm to landlines... Pleased i'm not with giffgaff. :p

    (sorry, couldn't resist that).

Giffgaff is a good offer, sorry for the flippant comment, but it is by no means on its own and it is the not the solution to all problems that MSE threads are starting to make it appear like.

Unlike all the other value tariffs offering 8p calls and 4p texts - such as TescoLite, Family Mobile, Talkmobile essentials - giffgaff also also big-value bundles, too. Most other operators that offer such big bundles rely on either serious under-use of the time-limited bundle or over-use exceeding the bundle in order to change huge ridiculous rates (40p I think Virgin have notched up to now). Giffgaff may be faced with changing this in the near future, or not be able to offer such good bundles.

There is plenty of alternative choice for low users. Low users need to MOVE off 25p minumum call charges and 25p per minute rates. There are oodles of options. The main operators don't want low users. Ultimately, the rest probably don't either.

For low users, we'll probably end up seeing things like The Phone Co-op's tariff becoming the kind of thing that ultimately offers a more sustainable pricing structure for the low user. If all the current alternatives end up with loads of low users, they'll be inclined to put up prices, too.

we may even see the return of top-up expiry. Who knows.

Exactly, many of the main players are already'forcing' users off low usage with their bundles that last a month which in effect is no different from having a contract, sub-prime mobile market will be no good for us in the long run :o

Its the bit at the end of the video where the man says a "fairly complexed procedure, you might just have to put up with it". Complexed? I did it and it seemed straight forward enough to me?

And DUTR, "ramming" Really?? Stop reading the forums then, unless you have something worth saying...

Perhaps MSE should have a seperate pyramid selling board for giffgaff promoters, don't read my posts if you don't like what is commented :p

Who was this man? Some "Mark Newman from Informa". dunno.gif

Cannot BBC find anybody more competent and knowledgeable to invite?

Re giffgaff, reading forums gets really boring if this word is mentioned in every third post. That's why people really reading the forums don't mention it without really good reason, especially because it is not the cheapest unless you need internet.

I agree it gets very boring, but it can be cheapest for calls to UK landlines if used in conjunction with http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php via 0808 freephone number.

    5p connection 1p a min to 01/02/03 numbers

Also 5p connection 6p to uk mobiles at weekends.

    Plus cheaper calls to 0845/0870.

Although some of the legacy tariffs are good value depending on how you use the phone. My wife's on the old Vodafone SmartPlus tariff and as far as I know nothing can beat it for her usage (mainly off-peak, sometimes long calls, roaming).

Or mobiles moving towards landline pricing structures - ie pay a line rental and get unlimited calls, either off-peak only or 24/7 for a bit more. With termination charges reducing, the marginal cost of placing calls will become trivial, the maintenance of the network (ie "standing charge") will be the significant bit.
