Will my old vodafone sim work in a new vodafone dongle?

I got a vodafone dongle back in the days when the credit didn't expire on them. I have a dongle sim with about £15 worth of credit on but the dongle itself is knackered (squashed beyond repair by a very heavy box).
Vodafone won't transfer my cheaper tariff over to a new dongle, even though I still have credit so I was gonna buy a cheap dongle off ebay and just stick the old sim in it. But there are ads on ebay for the 'newer, faster dongle' which seem to differ from the old ones but have sims where the credit expires (you buy a day/week/month at a time).
Question is - will my old sim work in any vodafone dongle? And, if so, will I get a faster service using a new dongle or is that dependent on the sim I have?

You can use any Vodafone dongle or any unlocked dongle. With an unlocked non-Vodafone dongle you will need to add the connection details to the modem software interface. With a Vodafone modem there is nothing to be done. The old SIM needs to be used at least once every six months (or 270 days, I'm not sure) otherwise it may stop working.
If you do a bit of travelling and would like to use other networks here and abroad, think about an unlocked modem. Here is one for £14.
You'll need to add these connection settings for Vodafone:
APN (PAYG): pp.vodafone.co.uk
