To be fair, even experienced drivers make mistakes when they switch to a new car, hell my two cars, one has the indicator stalk on the right (where it bloody should be!) and the other on the left. If I've been driving the one car or a while and then switch I'll sometimes end up switching on the wipers instead of indicating.
That would be a minor in a test situation and thus potentially the difference between pass and fail.
FWIW, my instructor changed from a car without power steering to a car with power steering on the day of my test, I ended up failing with 3 minors on steering.0 -
Ah right sorry thought it was silly me

I think now I have more confidence in driving than I did when the last changes happened so hopefully it will help a little.
I was a bit cheeky with the fiat as I used certain parts of the car as reference points and I wont have them any more.
Suppose it all adds up to make me a better driver

Lum i'm not disagreeing blimey i'm in and out of different cars and vans all week long and the damn reverse gear is different on everyone lol, but what I am saying is people get too used to one gear box and one clutch and the panic sets in that they can't drive anything else but they can if they just get their confidence up. Instead of worrying about the car being different worry about what you need to do. The clutch and gear box does exactly the same thing no matter what the car but they all feel different for sure once you get used to the gear box and clutch you should be fine hence why I said for a learner an hour or two and you should have mastered it, you just have to forget about the previous car and move on with the new one.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Problem is while you may make some minor cockups when switching car that have no significant impact, in a test situation a pedantic examiner will mark you down for it.
Then again, they'd likely also fail me for the way I reverse the Mondeo. Rear visibility is terrible so I open the door and stick my head out for that last foot or so of reversing. I don't think that's in the official procedure

they are all minor errors though and in fairness you are allowed quite a few of those. Sticking your head out would probably be a fail lol but we all do it when we need toEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

LMAO Lum can honestly say I havent come across that yet but will defo steer clear of that come test time.Problem is while you may make some minor cockups when switching car that have no significant impact, in a test situation a pedantic examiner will mark you down for it.

My OH got stuck with one of those pedantic examiners in his first test sadly, and failed. His instructor said he shouldn't have done but that the woman is known for it. In his words "she needs to get some and lighten up"

You don't want to stick your head out of the door on your test

There's a lot of stuff that people do day to day that i perfectly fine, but is a test fail.0 -
Yeah there's also a lot of stuff that people do that makes me think !!!!!! how did you ever pass your test :P

Just wanted to add, I passed

2nd time in car. Got 11 faults, but I passed and now I can focus on getting used to yet another car that will hopefully not be changing

Nice one, well done. Now you can concentrate on learning to drive rather than learning to pass the test.
