Missed out on test today due to the strike

Was due to have my test today and as title says I missed out due to the strike.

I'm gutted especially as my instructor is leaving on the 12th. They have rebooked me in for the 20th (at a rather inconvenient time I may add) but that only gives me two weeks (2x two hour lessons) to get used to a new car :(

Did anyone else have the misfortune of having theirs cancelled?

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

If you were ready for today then I'm sure you'll be fine, though changing to another car is never helpful.

Its not when I've had 5 different cars already :( its going to take me more than the two lessons to adjust. Ah well will have to keep on going I guess.

I had my test cancelled in 2004 when the examiners went on strike, only found out when he came in 10 minutes late and said he wasn't doing it.

On the day of my rebooked test my instructor from the AA turned up 40 minutes late with a completely different car (giving me about 10 minutes to drive it before the test). Needless to say I failed and didn't book any more lessons with them.

You should be able to get used to a new car in an hour or so (I think a lot of people forget how difficult this is for a new driver compared to the few minutes it takes an experienced driver).

Yeh i think back to when I had my test and a few days before the instructors car had to go in for repairs and had a petrol micra instead of a diesel focus... was a shock!! best of luck

I had the same thing with my instructor - he'd had the car for over a week and hadn't thought to tell me! It was a bigger engine and Diesel instead of Petrol. Even though it was the same type of car it still mucked me up too much to pass.

Not a possibility for me as I HAVE to stay with BSM and they have all changed cars.

I struggled to adjust when cars have changed before, as I went from a corsa, to a fiat, another fiat another fiat oh and then another one...and now back to a corsa so will be my 6th car. This is also going to be my 5th instructor!!

I really don't rate BSM thanks to all the changes, either that or I am such a bad driver everyone left because of me :p

It does take me ages to get used to the new bite, and how sensitive the accelerator is but I am going to try my hardest as I really need/want to pass.

Bad workmen blames his tools springs to mind, everyone seems to be blaming the change in car for not passing their test. Clearly you weren't ready to pass the test yet. An hour or 2 in the new car and you should be able to get the feel for it, its not like stepping from a micra to harrier jet the differences are usually minimal and once you get used to the clutch and gear change your good to go.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Considering I didnt actually get a chance to take my test.....
point is everyone adjusts to change at a different pace and what might be minimal for one may be huge for another.

I'm going to do my 4 hours lessons, spend the first two concentrating on clutch and then the practice my manoeuvres. If I suck after those lessons I still have time to cancel. I'm not 100% confident but I can but try.

I wasn't aiming the test part at yourself just the others who claimed the instructor changed car before the test and caused them to fail.

Don't fret over the car change its good to be getting inside another car to drive its all part of the experience. Too many people buy a car drive it for 2 years lets say after passing their test then panic when they realise they can't get another 1990 fiesta in good nick and "They can't drive anything else". If you can master getting in one car and driving then getting into something else and driving it you are ready to drive just about anything!!

Fretting about the car is going to take a knock on your confidence the manoeuvres haven't changed, the clutch and gear box will still work in exactly the same way but will just feel different. several gear changes and you'll be used to it.
