Refund after return

Hello,
I bought a processor at the end of Dec last year, it broke and I contacted the company I bought it from and they sent me a returns number, I sent it off and it was signed for, anyway a month later and I have heard nothing, so I write to them and ask whats going on? nothing, a week later I write again, this time I recieve an email telling me they are a new company who have only been running for 2 days, now I do not know what to do, we are talking hundreds of pounds lost and the odd thing is that the website is the same, the numbers are the same, the trading address is the same, I can see nothing anywhere to say they were bust or taken over, I also have no idea where my processor is and they failed to mention anything about it, their reply was very short and was basically we ar4e a new company, sorry we cannot help you with your problem.
I have written back but recieved nothing.
Anyone know the law in these situations? oh and my log in details are the same on their website, but they have deleted my history of purchases. I would think if they take me on as a customer they take on the responsibility of my return?
Cheers
ps they were meant to be one of the uks largest pc suppliers, also their website has not been changed with all their positive reviews etc which if they have changed hands surely by law they would need to remove these?
Cheers again

Hello, I wrote on the 23rd but that seems to of been ignored, please can you update me as to what is going on with my processor or replacemnt, obviously the processor is the heart of my PC which is needed for me to work on things at home, without a PC this is impossible, as this ceased workng within 6 months, consumer direct have told me under the sale of goods act, I should not be inconvienced by my product failing to work and it must be dealt within a reasonable time, well I am obviously very inconvienced and its fair to assume that a processor is not going to be repaired it will have to be replaced, I would ask that it be pushed wherever it needs pushing and know what is going on.
Many thanks.0 -
If you bought the thing using a credit card, you can use Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
Have a read of MSE's article on this.
Here is an article on MicroDirect's woes.0 -
If you bought it on a debit card, see your bank to see if a charge back can be done, not sure whether there are time restrictions on this though.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I paid using Paypal on the 1st December, I have contacted them but they just said its not an issue they could deal with as it was to long ago.
Thanks for the info showing they have been taken over and bust, but the question remains, my property is not theirs, yet it was on their premises or sent away, its mine, now in the article you posted it states they have been taken over by this Dormir UK, as they are running the site as it is and still using the name etc surely they have taken on the responsibility of returning me my goods?
Cheers for the information so far.0 -

Even if they managed to track down you processor, they are under no obligation to provide you with a remedy other than returning the broken item (which I assume is now useless anyway) to you. Either way you've lost out I'm afraid, and I don't think there's anything you can do.0
