How to spend money raised by the PTA.

Hi!
The National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations (NCPTA) is a national charity representing over 13,000 PTAs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their website is:
https://www.ncpta.org.uk
You may find it useful for info and insurance.
Our school has a good PTA (which everyone is automatically member of), run by a committee of volunteers. Elected Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. We also have system of Class reps (one or two volunteers per class) who are responsible class events/activities ie making sure there are enough parents to accompany trips or organise and run the class Christmas party, and for getting volunteers to man stalls at things like the Summer and Xmas fairs, help at the car boots sales etc.
The class reps are led by a 'reps rep' (this is sometimes shared) who coordinates and generally chivvies! Class rep meetings are held to cascade down info from the PTA meetings.
We are a registered charity and have audited accounts - usually an accountant parent so no fees! :money:
Works well for us but getting volunteers is always hard going - the usual few stepping up and eventually getting fed up of doing all the work for little thanks!
We have just had our Summer Fair which raised 5.5k
Car Boots are good too - all you have to do is provide the space and sell cakes, snacks and drinks and you will have good sum to show for your efforts.
Anything involving food is usually a good earner in our area - we have an International Food Stall at our Fairs where parents donate home cooked dishes and local restaurants also donate food. This is very good earner for us. We also do BBQ - sausages and burgers and veggie burgers.
Quiz nights are usually very popular too - in our area, we have a Quiz and Curry night which sells out very quickly!
Auction of Promises evening is also a good earner for the school but we only do that every other year as can be a bit too much every year - getting the promises is hard work and alternate years means parents are more willing to volunteer promises!
We also hold Cake Sales - each class runs one a term (works out to every Friday):
The year parents are asked for donations of cakes to sell and the money raised is given to the class/year group teachers to spend on the class.
We usually use PTA money to fund a wishlist from the school - a big item (this year is shading for playgrounds) and also a few smaller things, also the class teachers can request stuff for classes which PTA will usually fund. Have in the past years funded a Discovery zone - pond for dipping and related equipment), Playground equipment and games, Sound equipment. Interactive whiteboards.
Our school also supports a charity - decided by the school committee (children) and the PSA usually donate some money towards that as well.
Good luck!
