Just had a phone call from some chap trying to flog me a 3 contract for better than my current O2 one!! How do these people find out your numbers and when your contract is about to end? Sure enough, every December, they seem to know I change in January and start the calls! Its so annoying! How do you get them to stop? I've tried the being rude approach but it doesnt work!
What I dont get is, surely the only people that know my contract runs from January, is my contract provider, being O2. Now, why, if they want to keep me as their valued customer, would they pass on my details to a rivl company, who would try and poach my custom!? It seems very daft, and sloppy business practise! At the end of the day, i'll make my own mind up and will go with who I chose, not have someone ring up and push one offer on me to steal my custom. Probably end up getting a bum deal anyway!!
CUT IT OUT!!!!!

Are you sure it's EVERY December? And are you sure you NEVER get called any other time? Seems you need a lot of evidence to say it's always when your contract was running out.
Did he *say* that he knew the contract was running out?Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Thanks for the RE's guys.
Magyar: Yeah its every December, I remember the same sort of thing last year and the year before, and OK it may be November as well, but he said to me, words to the effect of "I can see that your contract is coming to an end next month, have O2 offered you a good upgrade package yet?" without me even giving him as much as my first name. I provided no details yet he knew all of mine!
Phonebuff: I believe he did say "My names John calling from 'x' company" but I didnt pay a great deal of attention, but then went on to try and offer a 3 deal
and Rash: Yeah, i basically told him that I was paying £15 a month, for 200 mins, 500 texts and was happy with it. He basically said it was a good deal and asked if I'd been given a better one yet by O2. I said i was gonna ring them next month (when I'M ready to change it!) and get one then!
My next tactic is gonna be to hang up without uttering a sentence, but that wont halt future calls will it? I'd love to find the person responsible and kick him, sqaure, in the :footie::footie:'s!!0 -
Or you could just ask them to remove you from their marketing records?
And register your mobile with the TPS?
(Or is that too simple

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
too simple.

Telephone preference service. You register your number with them to prevent unwanted marketing calls. It's the same as the mail preference service (for all that unwanted junk mail) but for phones. If anyone subsequestly does call (although they shouldn't), just tell them that you are registered with the TPS and that they shouldn't be calling you.
With regards to getting them to take you off their records, just ask the operator who calls you to amend their database to show to not call you ever again. Once they have received a formal request to cease using your number for marketing, they have to comply or they are in breach of the the Communications Act."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

TPS = Telephone Preference Service - i.e. if you're on this list then reputable companies don't contact you
And under the data protection act, you have a right to ask what information is held on you and they must only hold such information with your permission (more or less, anyway).
If they're not reputable enough to do these, then there's nothing you can do about it, other than know not to deal with them. As stated above, this would be illegal.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

And out of interest, generally works extremely well: as do the mail preference services - I've had noticeably fewer calls/junk mail since registering on both.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I do get such calls about every day on my BT phone, almost all the calls are from India. The CLI doesn't show caller number just the dotted lines. I am registered with TPS but think the Indians don't care about it.
