Need to use up remaining PAYG credit?

I have just under £30 remaining on my Orange PAYG simcard but I need to get rid of it before I can port my number over to my new contract sim. Does anyone know of the best way to get rid of it or even sell it, preferably without making too much of a loss along the way?

get another payugo sim for £1 online or free in store (but you have to get £10 of credit), register it in your name and transfer the credit to it, buy you some time?
then keep it as a back up or give it to someone visitng or ebay it

  • There are quite a few suggestions on the what to do with easyMobile credit thread. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=304091

One thing that I did find too late to use is: https://www.mobuy.com Text MOBUY to 81814 to buy either a Top Gear or Planet Earth DVD.

There are various "top up by text" services you could use which would give you a credit balance you could still access after you have transferred over to the contract SIM. It all depends as to what kind of calls you make, and what kind of inclusive calls you'll have as to whether it's worth it.

One example of this type of service:

There are others too. Whilst not the best prices, it is one way to make sure your credit is still useable to some extent after porting. It works by using Caller Line Identity, so as your number is staying the same it does not matter that you've changed over phone companies.

I used just-dial to transfer all my remaining credit with Easymobile (as suggested by someone at MSE) which is handy for overseas calls. The charges are higher than other calling card companies (like 18185) but handy when using it away from home for international calls.

I was hoping to do the same with my Fresh sim cards and although the texts were sent last night , I haven't received a reply message from Just-dial yet.
