Colour me beautiful or alike

I am planning to buy new clothes in the sale this year, only problem is that I am rubbish at getting clothes that look any good on me. I am very pale(always) and I have very dark hair and think I should try diferent colours but think I need good advice on what I should do. Any advice?????

Have you heard of https://www.missussmartypants.com? They give style advice (but not really colour advice) for your body shape.

It's based in America so their actual shop and online shopping suggestions don't help much but their general style advice is really good and has helped me a lot. ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Hi, I had a ColorMeBeautiful consultation some years ago. I loved the experience and the colours that were selected for me were lovely and did suit me. I still bear them in mind when choosing clothes. In those days they assigned you a season and a quality - so you could be a warm spring or a clear winter. I was a soft autumn. I think they've changed their system somewhat now. Definitely worth doing ;)

What colour are your eyes? I have very dark brown hair and green eyes with pale skin. (Like Snow White, but not a pretty:rolleyes: )
I find jade, reds, purples, browns look good.

Pale shades, golds, white, grey and black make me look pale.

What about some highlights in your hair or is it not your cup of tea?:o

If you are looking in a shop go to a mirror and hold the garment under your chin and see if the colour lights your face up or drains it,if you can take along a friend who will be brutally honest it helps.Sometimes different shades of a colour can suit better, for instance when a pillar box red doesn't suit a pinker shade or a russet is more complimentary.

I had this done years ago and it was fun, but as fashions and colours change, and you get older the advice dates. I like to use personal shoppers now, as they give you advice about what is in fashion, and will also ensure your look isn't old before your time. A lot of the department stores have free personal shopping services now, with no obligation to buy, though you do have to make an appointment, and it may be a few weeks before they can fit you in.

I had my colours 'done' by house of colour. I hate clothes shopping so it has really helped me as I can now go into a shop and only try on things in colours I know suit me which really helps. You get a handy little wallet with swatches of fabric in to take out with you. It is quite expensive but saves you wasting money in the long run on things that you only wear once. Good to have as a present or to go with a friend.

I have had a look on their website, and it's £75 for a colour consultation. I think it could be worth it, if it saves me loads of money in tat. I think I am also going to stop buying baggy shapeless stuff as well and black!!!

I have green eyes, the palest skin ever and really dark hair, did have high lights but they just go brassy on me.

I want to be yummy mummy not scummy mummy!!!!!!!!!

my daughters bought me a colour consutation years ago for a birthday present it was very good as i tended to go for dark colours navy black and browns. The colours i was introduced to were ones i could never have imagined myself wearing, but on changing to the ones that were suggested people did definietly start and compliment me on how well/ younger /nice I looked. I think it was well worth the money my daughters paid, although I never knew how much this was.

Even if you are advised to wear colours that you don't normally wear, you can always wear them as accessories.

I find it fascinating and really worth it.
