AOL tale

Hi all - just a quick recommendation to persevere with AOL customer service. After a couple of months of reliable 1MB service it dropped to a very patchy 512 kb. The bare bones chronology of my call to AOL is as follows:
Tech 1: Yes your line has been downgraded to 512MB, i'll transfer you to Customer service
CS1: You should have access to 1MB, I'll transfer you to tech support
Tech2: AOL's magnificent service is being foiled by exchange work by BT that should take no more than 2 Months. People paying almost twice what you pay are in the same position
Me: I'd like to cancel my account
CS2: You have a twelve month contract so I can't cancel your account
Me: My contract is for delivery of a 1mb service which you can't deliver for two months.
CS2: We have now upgraded your line to 1MB service.
A half hour call was resolved in the last 90 seconds; I can only conclude that there is a financial imperative that makes them so reluctant to do what seems so readily within their abilities.
I'm still left with disconnections but I believe that is due to being transferred to ADSLMax which needs 10 days to bed down - can anyone confirm this?

AOL Customer Service (aside from being an oxymoron) is useless, I may just phone my aunt's pet budgie next time :rolleyes:0

I don't know how much stock to place in this but while reciting the many virtures of AOL, rather than answering any of my questions, indian tech 2 suggested that AOL silver would be upgraded to 2mb in the new year.0

o_t_e, i am on Aol silver,it wont make any difference to me if they upgrade it to 2mb,my local exchange only will let me have 1mb0

Hi imho - that has been my situation in the past - I was with euro1net and although their service was up to 2mb I could only get 1mb on my line. AOL must have moved me to ADSLMAX as I was told they could supply me with up to 4MB on my line which accords with the 5mb ADSLMAX limit on my local exchange.0

The connection dropouts are still ongoing with AOL but I've found a workaround: I connect to one of the bbc radio live feeds from here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/index.shtml?button
The continuous stream seems to maintain a connection - a bit irritating as I thought the point of broadband was that it was 'always on' not 'always on until AOL decide you don't need it and disconnect you'0 -
had a lot of drop outs today0

I`ve had dropouts every couple of minutes ALL day!!!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I asked about this and was told categorically that 'no further upgrades' would be done on AOL connections.o_t_e wrote:I don't know how much stock to place in this but while reciting the many virtures of AOL, rather than answering any of my questions, indian tech 2 suggested that AOL silver would be upgraded to 2mb in the new year.
