but its true 69chick, so its worth repeating :D we do tend to forget how much we've achieved; when I look back at how much I was spending pre-GC

the Canned Food UK website looks really useful so I've added it to our front page list, thanks JIL :)

  • Good morning all,

going out for the day, by myself. Plan to drive to the beach and have a little walk. I am taking a book and will sit and alternatively read and watch the world go by. In the past I would pop into a tearoom for my lunch but today I am taking my own packed lunch.

Cleaned out the freezer last night and wrote a list of items so that I can meal plan without getting frostbite.

Hope you all have an enjoyable day.

fThought I had posted yesterday. Obviously not. Oh well I spent £4.27 on bread, milk, butter and washingup liquid at the post office. Just to make sure I didnt buy anything extra. Too tempting in the supermarkets.
So I am somewhere near to my totals but I cannot remember. forgot to put them in my signature.! Derr

Well, the GC has worked really well for us even although I haven't posted updates. We have about £50 left from our £300, and would have had more but spent £40 on going out when the pocket money ran out :eek::eek:

When I consider how much we were going over budget before on groceries its amazing!:j

For August, we want to do it a little differently. Now we have our groceries under control, we want to get out pocket money under control as well. So we would like to put £500 for August, to include everything. Food, cats (except vet - we have a seperate pot for that), eating out, cinemas, pub, and the wedding gift we need to give, and everything bar the hotel for the wedding itself, clothes, DH going to the GBBF, everything. except bills, rent etc. I have no idea if we can stick to it. DH already feels he has overcommitted for the month, but I have a quiet one planned so it might equal out. We really need to get our spending under contol though, so lets hope it works!

Wow, August sure arrived in a hurry!! I am away for a good part of it, so I will hope to stick to €200, please Mrs Macawber. Might get me back on track. (Or else, I will come back to empty cupboards and make myself do a Sains run which would mean a LARGE spend but a lot less for the rest of the year).

Salad for lunch today, which had HG lettuce, carrots and radishes, so only shop bought tomatoes and olives!! Happy with that on a few different fronts!

Spent £2.10 in MrT's on tomatoes/cucumber and beetroot to have with our lunch, am off work with the girls today so we have had a picnic lunch, was going to take them to lunch but they weren't bothered so have saved a few pennies :)

Am off to see Harry Potter tonight, so might buy some sweets but will take that out of the entertainment budget...

Hope everyone is having a good day x

I seem to be doing ok this month. It was admittedly helped hugely by being away for a week on an all-inclusive holiday so no groceries needed to be bought. So I guess to be fair I should have allocated money for a week's less expenses but I'm not going to as I like the look of a month where I have come in under budget even if I have to cheat!

On another note, for the first time ever I have started my Christmas shopping early and it's been great. It has meant that instead of the mad rush just before Christmas where I buy overpriced items as I'm frantic, I have really thought about what people would like and have kept it in the back of my mind when shopping so that I can take advantage of bargains as I see them. Consequently I have now done all my Christmas shopping except for OH and my parents - and for much less money and probably more thoughtful presents as well. O I just realised there is one friend I haven't bought for yet - but she is really really hard to buy for - very expensive fussy tastes - so I have no idea what to buy for her on a budget.

Spent €18 today....48 pods for the fancy coffee machine my brother bought me for my birthday last month...wonderful coffee but at almost €.40 a cup is being rationed....am going to ask everyone for vouchers for Avoca for that time in December, tried buying on line but was saving €.01 on 16 cups so not worth the hassle! Seems to be cheaper in UK but with conversion and postage costs not sure if that would be any better....might just get DD2 and DS2 to bring some when they come home to cut costs.

Spend now at €103.80 so not doing too badly
