we are a faimly of 5, 2 adults and 3 under 5's we budget £200 per month (not going so well lately lol) this included everything except dog food, i aim for our average dinner to cost £2 however we regularly come in lower
Same situ here (actually eldest just turned 5) and my budget is twice that, which goes to show you really can't compare... I must have expensive tastes (despite growing up in poverty in a caravan :rotfl:) and my DH eats a LOT and insists on a lot of meat. I probably could feed my lot for £200 but I am lucky enough not to need to at the moment.
I have found food prices have gone up a LOT in the last few years since I tried the Grocery Challenge first few times round.
A LOT of little spends this month have added up but I am still hoping to make it. Have plenty of meat in the freezer, lots of milk... off to meal plan it all now.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

First month on the Challenge so thought I'd update. Started on 1st July and I've spent £29-75/£150 so far :j I'm amazed :T
To be honest it's low because I decided to do the Challenge as a way of making myself use stuff up instead of constantly buying more. This has worked really well.
I deliberately set my budget at what many would consider a high figure for a single with a cat and a dog - I didn't want to set it really low, fail and never do it again. The big hurdle for me will come in a few months time when my freezer is much emptier and the bulk petfood order needs to be placed
£10 of my spend was on toilet rolls - a good type on special offer so I got 36! About 4 month's worth! I'm pleased that I will be able to mix and match bulk buying and immediate needs and still stay in budget.
Whoopsied salmon, home grown potatoes, whoopsied carrots and cheese sauce made from whoopsied cheese for dinner today - lovely"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Went to MrM today - spent just under £5 and got
4 pints milk £1.25 (cheaper elsewhere but I wanted to go here anyway)
pack spring greens - 50p which I thought a good price - I picked up a few and took the heaviest, found it had one 'spring green' type veg and one was a sweetheart cabbage so I'm pleased
clementines £1
bananas -£1.15 for bumper pack - maybe 11 or so?
carrots 42p
pigs' liver 54p.
Really been craving liver. Went on a veggie eating plan for a few months but heavy periods just don't work well with me re iron. Have iron tabs but not as bad as I used to be so I try to just listen to what I want, if that makes sense.
Have menu planned for next couple of days then need something for Sun lunch but plan to stretch that out a bit.

i think alot of it does go back to your childhood, you don't wnat your kids to be the same as you, i'm kinda the same in that i could spend more but i've seen my parents waste money like it's going out of fashion then struggle to pay bills, while them munch on £3 shop bought cakes
£8.36 spends in te$co got some reduced carrots and bread so took them off my tue delivery, i'll be so glad when hubby goes back to work on mon and we get back to normal (i love him but were not skint and he's bored)DEC GC £463.67/£450

I emailed Tesco yesterday to moan about their bakery loaves having a huge hole in and I had to waste a load of bread last week, they just rang to say sorry and are sending me a £5 gift card to make up for it! Which I shall use towards my groceries and buy more bread!
May do the shop online this morning, but I seem to be having a mental block with meal planning and lists at the moment. I go through phases of being really on top of it and on the ball and phases of really struggling to get the motivation... guess I'm not alone though!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Good morning everyone,
plan to make small portions of macaroni cheese today for freezer. Also hope to make some biscuits. Will look at recipes on first page for inspiration. Other than that I plan to have a quiet day.
Hope you all have a frugal and fruitful day.It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!0
