Have to agree with Elle7 ... if you think you can stomach doing it yourself, most pets seem to be calmer whilst it's being done ...plus it saves them the stress of going to the vets, too (not to say saves you money!) as long as you get the vet to show you how to do it properly!
I do all my pets (I know, I get all the good jobs, eh?!) ... but I tell you something, if you think a cat's or dog's glands smell whilst emptying, you should be present when I sort out my little ferret ... oh boy ... now that stench is beyond description ... even my poor vet went green the first time he showed me what to do ... !!!
Best of it is, she seems to need them doing frequently so they don't infect, so I get the "pleasure" every month ... (apparently they remove the glands in the USA but it's illegal here) ...
But as I say, if you feel you can do it for your cat, it's only a 5 minute job!0 -
Well, she's back to the vets on Wednesday, she's still dragging her bum & not only that, but over the past couple day's she's been sneezing/coughing quite terribly, she seems to be not too bad today & I'm wondering if it was the heat as it was very hot & humid last night.0

Oh Spike, sorry to hear that ....:(
Has she had problems in the summer before?
I know she doesn't go out but I'm just wondering with it being so hot if you've had loads of windows open and she's got a touch of hayfever too - the pollen levels are horrendous just now.
Fingers crossed that's all it is.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

My male cat scooches his butt across the carpet which is disgusting, Ive taken him to the vet before and its not his anal glands and he doesn't have worms. The vet said he must just like to itch his backside via my carpet - so glad Im ripping those up soon!
Hopefully your cat will be better soon. One of my cats is a sneezy cat, she's always been like that though, worse in summer, maybe hayfever in cats? (is that possible)0
