I've been quoted £40 for getting a sony erricson unlocked at my local market stall. Would vodaphone do it cheaper?

About £20 if what I've read on the net is correct. only real way to find out is to ring them up and ask. If you do ring them and they will do it, don't forget to post the cost as others maybe interested in unlocking theirs.

Just spoken to vodaphone, my brother who I got the sony ericsson W850i from will have to ring them and they will unlock the phone for free as long as its still not under contract terms with them but it can only be him that calls them. Just waiting to hear back from him, but will try a few places in the meantime when I'm in town later.
Does anyone know if vodaphone do anything similar to the O2 genie sim??

Well the vodafone shop said they can't unlock phones.
Found a market stall who'd do it for £15 but then told me the phone was blocked and started quizzing me.
My brother rang vodafone who said they're is nothing wrong with the phone so he's taking it to the vodaphone shop tomorrow who unlocked one of his phones last week

I have just had a similar farce with 3G, i bought a second hand phone as needed one and thought i would ring 3G to ask if they would open the phone for me.
A waste of time, they said if i could get the previous owner to ring them then they would do it but otherwise no.
    Surely thats wrong?
They just want me to keep it on their network me thinks?!?!
Going to have to try a dodgy unlocker, not too keen on that.
So be aware people, buying a second hand phone from a shop is VERY risky unless it can be opened without having to ring the actual provider.
An awful lot of phones are looking like they are working in the same manner.

PS Could someone clarify that the W850i on 3G is a DB2020 and can't be opened by market stalls, please?? Just been viewing some other posts and this one cropped up.

Contact MSE member james-73 he will be able to unlock it for you by code, not sure of the cost

Yes it is 3G, and yes it is DB2020. As long as its not the latest certificate (Customer ID) and they have an internet connection then market stalls may well be able to unlock this phone.

    Best regards
