Unable to establish my Broadband usage

Hi all
Although I have always rented the line from BT, many years ago I signed up to an "unlimited" BB and calls package with Tiscali, (who changed to TalkTalk, and during the transition my unlimited BB deal became 40GB) which has been fine, and as far as I know, we've never gone over my limit.
I'm now looking at other offers but I cannot establish what my current/historic data usage is or ever has been. Despite repeated written requests and discussions with TalkTalk, OfCom and the ombudsman, I'm no further forward. TalkTalk claim that they are unable to tell me because "I was a Tiscali customer and my line is with BT", apparently they don't have access to my data!
How can I choose a new package if I don't know my current HOUSEHOLDS usage? (there are several BB users in the house).
Are we all forced to choose more expensive high or unlimited packages "just in case"?
Any advice appreciated.

Download a usage monitor, Netmeter from Readerror is one that comes to mind, there are others just do a search.

Monitor your usage for a few weeks and Robert is a close relative.

PS You'll need a copy running on each of your PCs.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Thanks penrhyn - Will Netmeter account for 3 laptops, son's Playstation, daughters Nintendo DS and 3 - 4 Wifi enabled phones in the house?

No it won't, it will only monitor the machine it is installed on.
If your router supports SNMP, then MRTG will do what you want.
