In the days before most folk had a bank account and used to issue cheques, an alternative way of paying bills was/is to use a Postal Order. When the amount to pay was not exactly the value of the Postal Order, then postage stamps were stuck on the PO to bring the value up to the required amount. Crossed PO's can be paid into yer bank account.
Try this. Buy a one pound postal order, stick all the stamps on it, and go to yer own bank and pay it in to yer account - maybe ask to talk to someone at the bank first. Don't go straight to the cashier. I bet they won't know the answer, but insist they find out, and get back to you. And then get a formal answer, yes or no0 -
Find out before you get the postal order.
Don't know how much a PO costs, if that works and the PO is cheap it could be a way to do a SBT with a credit card that doesn't have the facility. Buy a load of stamps with your credit card, or is that a cash advance?

P.S. I thought commemorative £5 coins were legal tender. Not according to the Royal Mint...

I suppose I could just sell them on eBay! Or maybe I should wait as the value of the 1st Class stamps jumps by 6% in April!0

It would avoid Paypal fees on ebay. For that reason, I will take stamps for items up to about £5.
Also, the buyer may have stamps 'lying around' if (s)he, like me, buys from a stamp dealer at 10% discount on face value. (usually commemoratives etc, that have nothing special about them to make them collectors' items - may even be slightly damaged) Still, don't think I would buy £250 of them in one go!0 -
