Loft insulation

Just rip out the existing fibreglass. Its what we did. Bit itchy and hot, plus you need a mask, but if you take it out, voila, you are entitled to a new fill!0

Their criteria for the loft insulation i have been told is that if you have more than 50mm of insulatuion they wont do it (which is much less than the current recommended thickness) its all a big con really!
I dont really get all this if you are on benefits you can have everything for free, i work full time and i cannot afford all of these things that you get on benafits! (solar panels, insulation etc...)
As always, it's Mr middle income that gets screwed! if your rich you are fine, and if you are a low earner you just get given everything.
Everyone should be entitled to these energy effieicncy things.
Oh dear, not another one of those 'everyone should have everything for free' numpties. :rotfl:
It's not a con - it is a free offer with certain, FAIR, conditions. If you don't like it, don't ask for it! But it's certainly NOT something that energy companies HAVE to offer.
Christ sake, a free offer and people STILL think they have a right to moan about it. Cretins.
Oh, and by the way, this has nothing to do with people on benefits, so get your facts right before you make an !!! of yourself.
ANY BG customer can register to have free loft or cavity wall insulation at the moment (until October I think) - obviously dependant on what their property is like.0 -
When the reccomended thickness is 270mm i would suggest that it is a con, they are just trying to get away with the bare minimum.
As i have a whole 50-60mm of insulation british gas (and all others it would seem, wont touch it)
Well it's not a con, so suggest all you like. It's a free offer. Either have it or don't.0 -
The British Gas man has been he was brilliant and is doing my insulation for free. I have no insulation, being done in September. EXCELLENT servic:De.0

Just had the British Gas surveyor come around today, a bit of a long wait before they came (3-4 weeks) but the wait was worth while.
taking up the offer and contacting BG for either free loft instulation or cavity wall instulation, (i wanted both so was going to ask for a quote for the cheapest one) was surprised that the surveyer said 'that because British Gas have increased there prices they have now increased the free offer'
so now i'm getting FREE loft insulation and FREE cavity wall insulation
apparently it was announced a couple of days ago by BG, bonus

You are getting FREE insulation and you feel that YOU should not be reponsible for emptying YOUR own junk so that the work can be carried out thats really quite lazy.
I work for BG installing loft insulation and two man teams are currently installing an average of forty lofts a week with insulation eight a day for FREE. If we were responsible for emptying the lofts we would be lucky to get through three. I can't believe some of the comments on this page when you are infact getting a really good deal. Ifyou need insulation you will get it for free and it will save you a lot of money over a year THIS IS NOT A CON!!
Hi AK,
I had the British Gas energy rep to survey my property for cavity wall insulation the other day.
Its a mid terrace with a built in garage, and a conservatory on the back.
The conclusion was that the job could not be done due to conservatory being on the back. They kept mentioning the 2 thirds rule, and without scaffolding (£400)the job could not be done.
I can't really see why they have these rules as surely any cavity filling is better than none, and we are all paying for these schemes indirectly through higher prices. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
