I was promised by British Gas I could have free loft insulation if I left Scottish Power.I did , I was informed I WOULD have free loft insulation fittedI thought this marvelous , and asked how I qualify. They said because I've changed and could save money on my energy bills! but when I rang to book it, suddenly there was loads of conditions placed on me to get it free!! I doubt when I seethe surveyor it will be free. All conditions were not mentioned prior to me signing up. Has anyone else had a problem?

    What are the conditions you are referring to?

    These terms aren't told when they are encouraging you to change to British Gas.They say "you will get free loft insulation" I asked them for the catch and they said none. It says nothing about moving stuff in the loft in the terms and conditions. The surveyor is coming on Tuesday I can't wait for the excuses they use for me not to get it free!! Has anyone had free loft insulation.

    As long as the loft doesn't already have insulation (if over above a certain thickness there is no point having more ad you get no extra benefit), no non-standard equipment needed (eg scaffolding), the property is a listed building then you will get it free. Normally free insulation is only provided (through government funding) to those who are on low income, disabled or over 70.
    I had insulation laid last year by a company (not BG) and I had it free due to benefits my wife receives but I had to clear the loft of all the junk that was stored!
    Hardly a catch!

    Their criteria for the loft insulation i have been told is that if you have more than 50mm of insulatuion they wont do it (which is much less than the current recommended thickness) its all a big con really!

    I dont really get all this if you are on benefits you can have everything for free, i work full time and i cannot afford all of these things that you get on benafits! (solar panels, insulation etc...)
    As always, it's Mr middle income that gets screwed! if your rich you are fine, and if you are a low earner you just get given everything.

    Everyone should be entitled to these energy effieicncy things.

    It`s actually 60mm and the criteria is the same for all of the suppliers;

    It`s hardly a con :think:

    When the reccomended thickness is 270mm i would suggest that it is a con, they are just trying to get away with the bare minimum.

    As i have a whole 50-60mm of insulation british gas (and all others it would seem, wont touch it)

    I do :wave:

    The terms and conditions are here and were easy to find :money:

    One Offer per customer. Offer subject to survey. Customers will only be eligible for free measures under the Offer that are recommended by British Gas' appointed surveyor. Free insulation depends on type and size of property and will be capped at 140m2 (cavity wall) and 80m2 (loft). Insulation installations that require insulation beyond these limits will be chargeable. Customers will only be eligible for free measures under the Offer where we can insulate a minimum of two thirds of the available loft space (when applied to the whole loft surface area) or available cavity wall space (when applied to the whole house). Not all homes are suitable for loft or cavity wall insulation. Offer excludes the cost of scaffolding and any specialist equipment if required. Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other British Gas insulation offer. Offer only applicable to residential customers and excludes all other customers and/or properties including without limitation commercial or part commercial premises. British Gas reserves the right to exclude customers with any outstanding debt from taking advantage of the Offer. For loft insulation the Offer only applies where the thickness of existing insulation is less than 60mm.
