Hm... alarms are usually better than an error message. ^_^
Try the reset (turn it off at the wall, hold down the power button then power it on at the wall and keep the power button down for 5 seconds)
See if you get the same...

Are there any similar resets for a HP 1200 series which prints black like there is almost no ink left - even with a new cartridge (this happened after we changed from XP to Windows 7 but I can't find original disk or Windows 7 download for this at HP site!)
