Best before date... Tesco.

What should I do ? :(

I purchased a box of truffles last night with a Best Before date of Nov 2010 !
Checked on line when I got home and I was charged full price !
I got them from the choc aisle and not the reduced section.

Any help please ?

or just eat them, nothing wrong with stuff past it's bbd if it's not worth the hassle of going back.

I would say take a photo of your receipt and the box, and write/email to CS telling them its not convenient for you to go back to the store but that you are disgusted that they are not just out of date by a day or two but six months!

    Just get over it.

    It isn't illegal.

It is a Best BEFORE Date, not a use by or sell by.

If you are that bothered look before you buy.

I completely concur with this advice. It is unacceptable to purchase goods past their best before date without being informed of it such as through sites as approved foods. You bought this in good faith, expecting a shelf life for the product. I would most certainly write to Tesco to get a better response as you will only be offered a refund and the goods would be binned. Your return petrol money and inconvenience would not be taken into consideration.

    All the best with this!

I think you'll find the OP was informed of this, the BB date was printed on the package.

If the OP is that concerned about BB dates then he/she should learn to take notice of them.

And if you are still around, can you tell me what difference buying a product past it's BB date and knowing it is past it's BB date makes, compared to not knowing it's past it's BB date before you buy it? It's still the same product.

And that's what the OP got! It's just a BB date, it doesn't mean it is not fit to eat.

Yeah, but doing that is just admitting you aren't fit to go shopping yourself and haven't got a clue about BB dates.

Oh my days what a horrible partronising response.

Regardless of it the OP should have checked the BB date - I think Tesco as a "caring", "customer focused" company would like to be made aware that their staff arent doing their job and arent monitoring the BB dates in their respective section. Its then up to Tesco if they think their own actions mean the customer deserves compensating. Remember the customer is always right!

for a minute thought i was on HUKD with all the mean nasty unhelpful patronising replies to the OP:eek:

why should the OP have to check the BB date before purchasing, thats not the customers job!!

Last time i tried to purchase some fruit from my local co-op on a trolley with a marked down sticker (it was kiwis and they were rock hard ie unripe) the SA says to me I can't sell you those they're yesterdays. I said it doesn't matter i'll still buy them. I asked if I could just queitly take them if they were going to be binned. She refused and said she couldn't let me do either in case I got food poisoning and mumbles something about insurance. Absolutley bloomin ridiculous.

I would defo take them back or complaint o head office, shocking that thy'ev been on the shelf for so long without staff checking dates, makes you wonder how mahy other things they have out of date...........

You can write to tesco or take them back and ask for a refund. The staff aren't doing their job properly.

However....shops can sell food after the best before date has expired, the best before date is just a quality mark, the date shown is when the quality is at is best. However the quality will deteriorate over time but I think the chocolates will still be ok to eat (I study a food course at uni and done about this in may).

Hope you get it sorted =)
