T5 security is a comedy-shop, and always takes forever, even at the fast track line - that's your biggest issue.
The problem with T5 "fast track" security is that there are so many people eligible to use it, that it is usually no quicker than the standard queues. This is especially true between 6 and 9 am when a lot of business-type passengers are leaving. During the day and at weekends Fast Track is usually reasonable.Skeletor99 wrote: »Cheers people for all your answers, I think I'll opt to travel there tonight and hang around the 5 or so hours until check in opens. Annoying because I had plans to see Transformers 3
But hey, It will be an adventure, wish me luck!
Rather you than me - though the Costa Coffee in T5 departures is open 24 hours a day. Bag drop opens at 5am. You cannot check bags in the night before

Take the N9 night bus from Trafalgar Square or somewhere on it's route. They run 14, 34 & 54 minutes past the hour and take 1h17m
Check the route to see if you can use a stop elsewhere.
There's also the N97 to Hammersmith for an early Tube0 -
I know it depends where in London you are travelling from, but if you can get to Paddington, the Heathrow Express runs from 05:10 and takes 21 mins to T5. Its pricey, yes, but if you use this link you can get it for £8.25 which is half price.
http://www.heathrowexpress.com/iberiaen6TBH, it's not enough time at the best of times, but isn't it supposed to be chaos tomorrow at airports with the general strike?
The only people who are civil servants working at airports, and that will be on strike are HMRC and The Border Agency. These will only affect INBOUND passengers (expect long queues at Border control and customs!). However, the usual press "CHAOS FOR TRAVELLERS" headlines seem to be fooling the masses0
