Terminal 5...will I make my flight?

Ok so I am off to Hamburg to see Haye-Klitschko tomorrow at 7.50am.
I'm planning to get the first Picadilly line train to arrive there at 6.39am.
Can someone explain to me how terminal 5 works as I've never been there before..? Can I drop my bag anywhere?
How long does it take to check in to go to security and from the picadilly line platform to check in.
Every minute counts! lol
Many thanks!

......er.......probably not. It's peak time and the security queues will be long.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

That's very tight. I wouldn't want to do it.
My plan when flying is to get to the airport as soon as possible. Far better to be relaxing airside with a coffee (or beer!) than getting stressed about getting there late, risking transport delays or security queues.0 -
Minimum security clearance time is 35minutes - ie if you arrive at security with 34minutes before your flight they will not let you through (even if you can see your plane at a gate, or even if it's delayed).
There are bag drops across the entire departures level of T5 (seldom any waiting), and you can check-in online, and also print your BP at home. (Although you can do that quickly at a machine in the terminal).
T5 security is a comedy-shop, and always takes forever, even at the fast track line - that's your biggest issue.
Short version - no, that's not enough time.Legal team on standby0 -
TBH, it's not enough time at the best of times, but isn't it supposed to be chaos tomorrow at airports with the general strike?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Yes it is so I would be there a couple of hours before the flight (at the latest).peachyprice wrote: »but isn't it supposed to be chaos tomorrow at airports with the general strike?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Cheers people for all your answers, I think I'll opt to travel there tonight and hang around the 5 or so hours until check in opens. Annoying because I had plans to see Transformers 3

But hey, It will be an adventure, wish me luck!
