Smile Paying-in envelopes Part 2

I gave up on them ages ago. Final straw was when my hubby (who does all the paying in) used the last envelope and helpfully phoned up for some more. "hello could I have some paying in envelopes please" he gave the account number - from the paying in slip and was asked if he was Mrs Evans, no he said she's my wife, please send her some paying in envelopes, sorry we can't do that your'e not the customer. OK said he, seems a bit daft though just want the envelopes sent to our address. Oh as you know the address and the account number we will now re-set all the security! I couldn't get in to my account because he knew my address and account number - he didn't know my security logon details! Jeez anyone I sent a cheque to would know my address and account number. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0

If your husband had rang up Smile without your knowledge you would be happy with what they did.
I'm so glad my bank is so security conscious. Well done Smile !0 -
Good for smile. If it's a sole account then by agreeing to send out the envelopes they are technically breaching customer data protection - it could be anybody's estranged other half phoning up to check if an account exists. It might seem a trivial thing that they are being pedantic over, but why not just phone up yourself and do it. Or better still, request it via the customer services tab on the online banking site. That way, smile know it's a person authorised to make the request who is carrying it out. Think they're being slagged off for something fairly insignificant personally.0

Pinkgal,
Out of interest, I requested some envelopes via the website Customer Services tab on Thursday 21 Dec, the date of your post. They came today, having been posted on Friday 22 Dec which given the bank holidays & no post in the interim, is what I would have expected, given previous good experience of smile customer service.
PM me with your address if you want the envelopes.Ethical moneysaver0 -
Pinkgal, why bother waiting for paying in envelopes? Just send them direct using the freepost address. When you pay cheques in at the post office, all that happens is that they get sent in the post to the freepost address and actually take 1-2 working days longer than if you sent them direct.
Also, if they get lost in the post there is nothing smile can do. They will just tell you to contact the issuer and get new cheques issued. I used to work for smile and the amount of people who thought paying in at a post office with a receipt to say it was paid in covered them. We had more complaints regarding cheques going missing when paid in at post office than anything else. At post offices as well, at least 4 different people handle your envelope before going to the sorting depot etc, where posting direct it's just you, the postman and the sorting depot.0
