There is a rather long Amazon thread here, but it does have some tips in the first few posts

I looked into selling good quality children's books on ebay - unfortunately the postage alone was often more than some sellers were selling the books for.
If I listed the books at 10p and charged the exact postage fee for 2nd class - there were still sellers selling the same things cheaper - often with free postage. I dont know how they managed it!! Surely after paying ebay and paypal fees they'd be out of pocket?XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
This is what I don't understand either......0

I assume some people are using business postage accounts to get cheaper rates but also some just under estimating the postage cost. I buy quite a few books, and sometimes i can have as many as 1 in 10 cancelled as the postage was more than they anticipated.
I had one delivered this morning (in brown paper wrapping that was shredded, so book arrived in a plastic Royal Mail bag) that cost £2.16 to post but I paid 99p plus £1.25 postage on ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No need to work out postage - Amazon has a set figure (however heavy your book is!) so the really important thing is to weigh your book on the kitchen scales and check on the post office website how much it will cost.
Sometimes when you see what other sellers are pricing the book at it just won't be worth your while listing it. The good thing about Amazon is that when you list you get to the end where it tells you what you will receive if the book sells, before you are committed to listing, you can then scrap the whole listing if it's not worth your while!
I've sold books on Amazon for 4 years- the last 18 months has been all but dead- sold about 2 books.0 -
I do also wonder if some people are using employer p&p. That way the entire £1.46 for a 1p book on Amazon would be profit. Though stolen profit.0

I have a few books to get rid of and have been wondering where to sell them other than Ebay (first editions first prints Harry Potters) . if anyone has any suggestions for me I would be very grateful.0

I would think just about all the realistic suggestions have been covered in this thread.
I wouldn't bother with a real Bricks and mortar auction house for instance as you'll be getting pennies per book at most. I bought three tea chest fulls for £3.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. An auction house had never crossed my mind I have never been to one, but knowing that you have picked up three tea chests full of books for £3 I may have to investigate visiting one to fill my tiny house further with other peoples clutter lol0
